The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg.
WCWRC is seeking an Assistant HOMES Program Coordinator. The Assistant HOMES Program Coordinator assists in the delivery of HOMES program by providing support and mentorship to volunteers and assisting the HOMES program coordinator with administrative duties.This is done using an empowerment and harm reduction philosophy.
Objectives
To support and assist women facing economic and social barriers to obtain housing and economic security through advocacy and referral
Start Date: immediately
Salary: $17 - 19/hr
Time requirement: 30 hours/ week – 1 year term
Closing date: May 23, 2014
Responsibilities
Reporting to the HOMES Program Coordinator: the Assistant HOMES Program Coordinator is responsible to:
- Provide orientation and supervision to volunteer HOMES mentors
- Assist with other duties such as filing, data entry, organizing meetings/events and outreach.
- Meet with women to complete intake form and gather information about their situation
- Provide referrals as necessary
- Ensure necessary follow up calls to arrange appointments, confirm appointments, etc
- Assist women to use resources considering difficulty with language, reading, time
- Work with staff mentor to help women prepare for meetings, hearings etc.
- Attend meetings and hearings with women to offer support and companionship
- Participate in community meetings related to strategies to improve the economic and social security, safety, and housing of women
- Crisis intervention
- Advocacy on behalf of participants as required
- Maintain accurate records and statistics
- Record hours and maintain record of activities and files for program participants
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential
- Completion of grade 12, post-secondary education in social services is preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work within an inclusion framework, including knowledge of the issues of marginalization
- Must be participant focused
- Strong understanding of empowerment and harm reduction philosophies
- Strong advocacy skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong administrative skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Familiar with the use of Microsoft office and outlook
- Experience in a supervisory role
- Professional and responsible with sensitive and confidential issues
Preferred:
- Knowledge of the housing and EIA systems in Manitoba
- Experience working within the non-profit sector
- Ability to work from a multi-level approach
- Understanding of Community Economic Development Concepts
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Experience working collaboratively with community organizations
- Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision
