Each year, we send hundreds of global citizens to work on collaborative development projects in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. ABOUT THE PARTNER
Cuso International started its work in Honduras in 2005 with a Natural Resources Management Program. It has a played a strong role in Honduras, placing skilled international volunteers with local agencies to build capacity and increase effectiveness in their efforts to address poverty and exclusion. Cuso International is launching a multi-year initiative to promote and develop national volunteering by young Hondurans as a high-impact way to tackle problems of poverty, inequality and insecurity.
THE VOLUNTEER’S ROLE
Purpose: Shape the Cuso International program of value chains for Honduras.
Objectives: Elaborate the strategic plan of Cuso International in value chains, a project and a funding proposal in agreement with the partnership developed by Cuso International.
Specific Objectives:
- Stimulate and proactively contribute to synergies among partners, other actors and other programs of Cuso International.
- Generate and enhance capacities among stakeholders of the program.
- Advise the team of Cuso International and its stakeholders in value chains matters, developing approaches and arrangements for enhancing management, governance capacity and service & extension models.
- To promote and coordinate value chain development and inclusive business linkages to build efficiency and quality in the determined chain.
- To engage with actors along the cashew value chain to build a strong interest in establishing a more profitable chain and equitable distribution of benefits including women and youth.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential requirements
- Degree or equivalent experience in economic development, private sector development, and/or social business development.
- At least 5 years of work experience in agricultural or rural value chains.
- Experience and strong track record as a value chain advisor with alongside donor-funded programs supporting value chain actors and market systems.
- Experience in dealing with actors at all levels in value chains, including farmers, processors, input suppliers and service providers.
- Experience in project management, proposal writing, project and work planning, monitoring & evaluation and reporting.
TRAINING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Our training and support package covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, allowing you to enjoy a modest but healthy lifestyle while you volunteer abroad. This includes:
- Attendance at a Cuso International assessment day (candidates must cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs)
- Travel and accommodation costs associated with pre-departure training
- Return airfare and visa/permit (this includes a return flight in the case of a family emergency)
- Coverage for required vaccinations, medications and comprehensive health insurance
- Accommodation while overseas
- A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed
- Quarterly payments to support you in your placement
- Modest support for accompanying partners
