ABOUT THE PARTNER
Cuso International started its work in Honduras in 2005 with a Natural Resources Management Program. It has a played a strong role in Honduras, placing skilled international volunteers with local agencies to build capacity and increase effectiveness in their efforts to address poverty and exclusion. Cuso International is launching a multi-year initiative to promote and develop national volunteering by young Hondurans as a high-impact way to tackle problems of poverty, inequality and insecurity.
THE VOLUNTEER’S ROLE
Overall placement purpose and specific volunteer placement objectives:
To explore and develop strategies and tools for addressing youth unemployment and promoting entrepreneurship among young people of peripheral urban neighbourhoods of Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and Potrerillos, specially for the ones who face fewer opportunities and academic underachievement.
Specific Objectives:
- Increase capacity of the program, partners and youth leaders (volunteers) in creating initiatives and projects to combat youth unemployment and promote entrepreneurship.
- Identify new potential partnership and cooperation with relevant actors and increase awareness among potential allies of the opportunities that the program can offer to make a difference for the youth and employability.
- Assessment of labor market: what it demands, what education system offers and what characteristics have the youth (by gender) to participate in that market.
- Identification of niches of opportunities for entrepreneurship for the youth, considering the gender disparities.
- Development of ideas, turning ideas into business in a participatory manner with the partners, the program and the youth target of the program.
- Capacity development among the stakeholders, including the design of training curriculum for the youth under the methodology of training of trainers.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential requirements
- Degree or equivalent experience in economic development, private sector development and/or social business development.
- Experience in labor issues and entrepreneurship.
- Experienced in project management, proposal writing, project and work planning, monitoring & evaluation and reporting.
- Experience in social research
TRAINING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Our training and support package covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, allowing you to enjoy a modest but healthy lifestyle while you volunteer abroad. This includes:
- Attendance at a Cuso International assessment day (candidates must cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs)
- Travel and accommodation costs associated with pre-departure training
- Return airfare and visa/permit (this includes a return flight in the case of a family emergency)
- Coverage for required vaccinations, medications and comprehensive health insurance
- Accommodation while overseas
- A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed
- Quarterly payments to support you in your placement
- Modest support for accompanying partners
