WBCO is a not-for-profit organization that coordinates neighbourhood renewal in our inner-city community. WBCO works with residents and stakeholders toward environmentally sustainable, social and economic revitalization of the West Broadway neighbourhood. 
 
The Urban Nature Educators coordinate and deliver daily drop-in environmental programming, activities and summer events for children in The Kid’s Garden at 659 Westminster. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate and deliver daily drop-in youth garden programming: including First Nations traditions, holistic and organic gardening practices and teaching genuine respect for the earth as a source of nourishing and delicious food 
  • Assist in the development of daily activities and program ideas 
  • Promote food security and related environmental issues to community youth and parents 
  • Gather programming materials and assist with healthy snack preparation 
  • Work cooperatively and enthusiastically with children aged 4-15 years. 
  • Perform gardening and maintenance work in West Broadway, as needed. 
  • Assist with West Broadway community events 

Qualifications and experience: 

  • Minimum one year work or volunteer experience 
  • Demonstrated experience working with children 
  • Some experience assisting in the coordination of environmental activities or programs 
  • Basic knowledge of gardening and food security issues 
  • Awareness of issues facing inner-city youth 
  • Self-directed work habits, works well independently and as a team 
  • CPR and First Aid training are an asset but not required 
  • Ability to work outdoors and do physical labour in the gardens 
  • Aged 15 – 29 (funding requirement) 

More information:

Wage and hours of work: 
$11 / hour; 35-40 hours/week. Monday to Friday. Occasional evening/weekend work may be required. 
 
Term of work: 
This a 10 week term position that extends from mid-June until the end of August.
