Responsibilities:

This position is open to one candidate who will report to the Clinic Facilitator, and will execute all aspects of the 2014 WISH Clinic Family Fun Day in August 2014, including:
  • Planning and coordinating logistics such as:
    • A detailed event budget
    • Fundraising and in-kind donation efforts (potentially requiring written grants)
    • Permit applications
    • Entertainment, activity, and cultural bookings
    • Food preparation and service
  • Volunteer recruitment, briefing, and organization leading up to and during the event
  • Developing and enacting a community engagement and advertising strategy to maximize a meaningful community experience
  • Developing  media relations plans in coordination with U of M and MCC policies
  • Overseeing all event day plans and volunteer coordination
  • Completing a thorough action plan and all debriefing procedures following the event
  • Being prepared to take on other logistics and tasks as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in event planning for non-profit organization
  • Experience in volunteer coordination
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, community members, and community organizations
  • Experience working with budgets and budget reporting
  • Effective organization and time management skills
  • Strong interest in population health and community development
  • Experience in and knowledge of Point Douglas/North End community and projects are strong assets
  • Preference will be given to current WISH Clinic volunteers and current University of Manitoba students

More information:

This contract will be for a maximum of 200 hours, beginning end of June with flexible hours increasing closer to the event, until approximately September 30th or earlier, pending completion of post-event tasks.  Remuneration is offered at a rate of $22.37 per hour.
