Who We Are:
The Centre for Community Organizations (COCo) promotes social justice, active citizenship, democracy, and just socio-economic development in Quebec by supporting the growth of healthy organizations and strong communities. COCo is a provincial, non-profit organization that works primarily with English-speaking, bilingual, and ethno-cultural community organizations. COCo works within a collaborative structure where all team members are responsible for a variety of tasks.
The Opportunity:
COCo is hiring a Communications and Engagement Coordinator. This is a permanent position at 28 hours/week and will start on the 18th of August 2014. Occasional evening and weekend work is required, as well as travel within the province. Salary: $29.29/hour, with the benefits of working in a flexible, creative, non-traditional work environment.
Tasks and responsibilities:
The Communications and Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the oversight and dissemination of communicating who COCo is as well as engaging with our internal and external members - our board, community members and the public. Working in a collaborative team environment, the Communications and Engagement Coordinator is tasked with:
- Leading the implementation of COCo’s 2014-2015 Information and Communications Technology Plan and our membership renewal campaign;
- Managing COCo’s Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system and leverage these contacts to further engage COCo’s membership base;
- Ongoing communications campaigns and outreach activities that strengthen current relationships and further grow our base;
- Evaluate the relevance of our communication with members in order to connect in down-to-earth ways with the groups we care about;
- Providing informal training and coaching related to Information and Communications Technology for COCo member groups.
- Ensuring that our broader public is connected to COCo and offered relevant and timely information about community issues by:
- Producing and evaluating relevance of COCo’s E-bulletin monthly newsletter;
- Managing COCo’s Social Media Presence – Facebook, Twitter, Youtube;
- Managing content on COCo’s website;
- Manage COCo’s info@ email account
- Creatively researching and developing new ways of communicating that encourage the participation of our members and broader public
- Using communication expertise from a systems perspective to ensure cohesive representation of who we are and what we do
- Ensuring that our staff and board communicate well with one another and COCo’s greater public through:
- Editing and translation support (facilitation tools and documents, funding applications, other communication pieces);
- Coordinating the Governance Hub (committee) and ensure the smooth communication between staff & board;
- Contributing to the ongoing development of COCo’s collaborative structure and internal anti-oppression practice;
- Ensuring proper functioning of COCo’s internal IT systems
Qualifications required:
- A strong background in the field of Communications, with at least 4-5 years in the field (a Masters in Communications or related field is strongly considered an asset)
- COMPLETE FLUENCY in English & French (spoken and written)
- At least 3 years of work or volunteer or work experience in the community sector
- Demonstrated experience with the following areas of communications and technology:
- E-strategy and Communications Planning
- Branding and Marketing in the non-profit context
- Graphic Design for Web and Print
- Constituent Relationship Management (CRM)
- Curation for Social Media and Website
- Working with Mainstream and Alternative Media
- Collaborating with other creative / communications / tech professionals
- Interest in developing skills in facilitation, popular education, creating accessible tools, and workshop development;
- Knowledge of, and relationships with, the English-speaking, bilingual, ethnocultural and francophone community networks;
- Exemplary team-player who enjoys sharing tasks, working collaboratively and building capacity within the team, while still being able to work autonomously;
- Ability to work in a responsive, flexible and creative work environment;
- Strong critical analysis abilities from a social justice perspective;
- A systemic approach to work & proven strategic planning expertise.
Additional Assets
- WordPress CMS maintenance;
- Web Video Production;
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills such as web development, database programming, network configuration and maintenance, etc;
- A valid driver’s license;
