DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meets with community residents and organizations to promote recreation, build recreation capacity within the North End (specifically the 21 Block area) and provide leadership for furthering the recreation goals in the North End!
- In consultation with community groups:
- Develops long and short term plans related to the community proposals such as: BMX, Machray Park, North End Hockey Outdoor Rinks to assist NECRC and CSD.
- Facilitates the central regular meetings with participants, program staff and community partners related to the North End Recreation Plan.
- Assists in researching community recreation needs and new program trends as it relates in concert to the following: 1. the Memorandum of Collaboration “LiveSafe” area recreation committee; 2. the various committees of the North End Recreation Plan.
- Will continue the work on the recreation report for the “LiveSafe” area: 1. To promote existing and new recreation and leisure programs and services available to residents of this area; 2. To build on the strengths and reduce the gaps in recreation programming and services related to recreation and leisure; 3. In working with residents implement the program planning changes identified in the Recreation “LiveSafe” Inventory report for recreation and leisure programs and services by the year 2016 for the “LiveSafe” area.
- Prepares promotional material and publicity as it relates to local facilities, programs and services specific to the LiveSafe designated area.
- Supports, liaises, develops and serves as a resource to the North End Rising Youth Committee, individuals, staff and volunteers in matters pertaining to the NECRC’s 5 year community plan in the area of youth. Provides internal support and supervision to North End Youth web site person.
- Attend training/orientation sessions designated by the CSD or NECRC relevant to the position.
- Operate within the CSD/NECRC safety policies and employment guidelines and ensures that all activities are conducted within these guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess University degree/college diploma and /or experience in programming related to recreation, leisure, active living and sport.
- Must possess experience in the provision of recreation programs and services to Community groups within a community development approach.
- Knowledge of recreation and the delivery of leisure programs within the North End would be an asset.
- Must possess direct experience and have an awareness of current issues affecting the Aboriginal and Newcomer youth in particular.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, co-ordinate and evaluate assigned programs/projects with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to impart leadership skills, facilitate/lead group discussions and to conduct workshops.
- Experience in supervision of staff/volunteers.
- Demonstrated ability to relate well to the general public, volunteers, other employees and agencies.
- Must possess a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate or higher and CPR Level C Certificate or equivalents prior to the start of employment and maintain certification current for the period of employment.
- Must possess or be willing to undertake and successfully complete within a reasonable time frame, relevant training as designated by NECRC or CSD.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
- Experienced in writing formal reports/ funding proposals.
- Demonstrated skills in mediation and conflict resolution.
