Who We Need

We’re looking for someone passionate about supporting individuals as they build their financial literacy skills and grow their assets on their journey toward a sustainable livelihood.

In the Money Management program your energy and your people skills will allow you to
effectively facilitate money management workshops using Momentum’s curriculum and your understanding of the financial barriers faced by people who live on low incomes makes you a perfect fit. You’re a natural facilitator relying on adult education principles to bring our creative content alive for groups.

In the Savings Circle program your belief that all Calgarians should have financial stability in their lives makes you the perfect facilitator for this matched savings program. Your energy and passion support participants through a six month program designed to help them develop a savings pattern while increasing their financial literacy.

Again, you’re a natural facilitator relying on adult education principles to bring our creative
content alive for groups.

Momentum staff are expected to work co-operatively with others; demonstrate flexibility in organising work; show a high degree of initiative, discernment, and resourcefulness; have good communication skills; and demonstrate thoughtfulness in decision-making. Staff must be non-judgmental and receptive in approach, and reflect genuine concern, respect and commitment towards the individual, family, and community.

Key areas of Responsibility:

Program promotion

  • Coordinate the development & dissemination of program promotional strategies and materials
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with community agencies
  • Respond to all inquiries via email, phone, sending promotional material, and/or personal meetings
  • Educate prospective participants and other agencies about Savings Circles, Money Management, and other Financial Literacy Programs

Program Delivery

  • Assist participants with application process
  • Schedule and facilitate Savings Circles workshops
  • Assist Savings Circles participants to reach their asset goal through monthly savings
  • Provide Savings Circles participants with support in the form of follow up, one to one coaching, and referral to other relevant services
  • Assist participants to increase their resiliency for unpredictable events
  • Encourage peer support and holistic well being among participants
  • Schedule & facilitate Money Management works hops in collaboration with the other Money Management facilitators
  • Be aware of the program budgets and facilitate the program within the budgets

IDA Administration (Savings Circles)

  • Monitor participant savings
  • Maintain the required records and accounting for each program participant
  • Assist participants through the cash out process
  • Assist in the on-going development of the departmental database

Program Administration, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Organize and conduct participant evaluation
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic & hard copy records
  • Monitor program progress with regards to achievement of program outputs and outcomes, and make appropriate adjustments to program delivery
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of Financial Literacy Curriculum
  • Ensure the Financial Literacy Manager is aware of program and participant successes and difficulties
  • Prepare required reports for Savings Circles & Money Management

Departmental & Community Involvement

  • Participate in Financial Literacy meetings and staff meetings
  • Recruit and train volunteers from the community to assist in program delivery
  • Be involved in Momentum initiatives of interest when capacity allows
  • As capacity allows, be involved in broader IDA, Financial Literacy, and community economic development initiatives
  • Network within the Calgary community and attend community agency meetings and events
  • Participate in community events, build relationships & partnerships in the areas of mental health

Qualifications, Experience, & Competencies

  • Degree or certification in social work, adult education, or relevant experience
  • Excellent facilitation skills and basic financial literacy knowledge
  • Experience in one-on-one coaching
  • Experience working with individuals living on low-incomes with multiple barriers, including individuals with mental health issues
  • Experience in program coordination
  • Understanding of Community Economic Development, financial literacy, and evaluation issues an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team building skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer literacy in word processing, database, email and internet systems
  • Non-profit experience an asset
  • Able to work one to two evening per week and access to transportation for travel within Calgary to deliver workshops at various sites
