The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. WCWRC is seeking an Indigenous Programming Coordinator to assist in the delivery of WCWRC’s Indigenous programs, including our Red Road to Healing program, our Indigenous Parenting program and our Traditional Teachings program. Our work is done using an empowerment and harm reduction philosophy.

Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 30 hrs/week
Salary: $19.00 - $21.00/hr
Closing Date: Sept. 22, 2014

Responsibilities:

  • Work in partnership with our Cultural Advisor to develop and deliver various elements of our Indigenous programs
  • Provide overall coordination and financial management of the centre’s Indigenous programs, including preparing reports and proposals
  • Co-facilitate Red Road to Healing group, along our Cultural Advisor
  • Organize and hold monthly workshops and events on issues related to safety, growth, and traditional Indigenous teachings, in collaboration with our Cultural Advisor
  • Conduct program evaluations
  • Provide on-going informal support and referral to community women using the Centre

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree, diploma or certificate in community development, Indigenous studies, or similar fields. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience in relation to the dynamics of family violence
  • Understanding of and comfort discussing traditional Indigenous teachings
  • Accessible to and supportive of community women
  • Experience writing funding proposals and reports
  • Strong budget management and record-keeping skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong administrative, time management and organizational skills
  • Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of an Indigenous language
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues related to colonization, marginalization, and diversity
  • Strong understanding of the West Central community.
  • Preference will be given to First Nations, Métis or Inuit applicants
