The Toronto School Travel Plan (STP) Facilitator will work with the Toronto STP Committee, Green Communities Canada (GCC) and community partners and be responsible for managing the STP process for eight to ten Toronto schools during the 2014-15 school year.
Key Qualifications:
- Excellent inter-personal, communication, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated experience in data analysis and report writing is a requirement.
- Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work collaboratively and individually.
- Strong working knowledge of the Active & Safe Routes to School program.
- Understanding of planning, environmental, health and safety issues related to active transportation.
- Experience working with teachers, parents, administration, and staff in an elementary school setting.
- Facilitation skills.
About this contract:
- Become familiar with and use the Canadian STP Facilitator Guide and STP Toolkit at www.saferoutestoschool.ca/school-travel-planning. Training will be provided by Green Communities.
- Chair the Toronto stakeholder committee to oversee the project with assistance of Green Communities. Facilitate regular update meetings of the Toronto committee. (Stakeholders include representatives from: Toronto District School Board Sustainability Office; Toronto Catholic District School Board; City of Toronto Transportation Services; City of Toronto Planning; Toronto Public Health; the local police divisions and bylaw services in enforcement and education; Toronto Student Transportation Group; School Trustees; Toronto City Councillors; Green Communities; University of Toronto; Heart & Stroke Foundation; and where appropriate parent reps, teachers, student council reps).
- Act as the liaison between the pilot schools and the Toronto committee.
- Coordinate and lead the creation of School Travel Plans, one per school, through the STP process and with the support of Green Communities:
- Baseline and follow-up data collection and analysis
- Cost-benefit data collection and reporting
- Creation of individual school action plans and implementation schedules
- Work with the schools and the Toronto committee to address barriers (both physical and perceived) to active travel at the schools.
- Assist Green Communities in the preparation of:
- A presentation on the project experience to be given as part of a national STP webinar
- Recommendations for school-wide roll-out of the STP model for Toronto
- A final report/case study for the Toronto project
About the Contract:
- Anticipated work term: September 29, 2014 to July 31, 2015.
- This contract will commence on a 15 hour/week basis. However, it is anticipated that hours will gradually increase to 37.5 hours/week by the end of December 2014, dependent on confirmation of expected funding.
- The contract will pay $28/hour including all applicable taxes.
- The contract will require travel within Toronto. Transit fares and mileage (at a rate of $0.45 per km) will be reimbursed to a maximum of $800.00.
- The successful candidate will be provided with a workstation, access to a telephone, and photocopier, wireless internet connection and a computer.
