Haida Gwaii means “Islands of the People” and is sometimes called “Canada’s Galapagos” because of its unique species of flora and fauna.
Haida Gwaii (formerly Queen Charlotte Islands) on the north coast of British Columbia has suffered economically and socially over the past few years but now its people and its culture are resurging and making significant changes.
The Board of Haida Gwaii’s Community Futures is looking for a person who is a visionary, enjoys tackling challenging situations and can be a catalyst in making a difference for a very unique environment in Canada.
The successful candidate would be joining an Island wide organization that has been successful in making a difference for the past fifteen years.
The General Manager would provide leadership in four key areas:
- Strategic Leadership – the ability to understand the changing conditions and trends on the Islands, to listen and engage all perspectives and interests and to work with the Board in developing plans and actions to achieve local priorities
- Community Economic Development – the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all First Nations and non First Nations residents, communities and organizations in supporting their capacities to control their local resources and build resiliency
- Business Planning, Coaching and Financing – the ability to support individuals and groups build viable organizations that create employment, address local challenges and enhance overall community vitality
- Management – the ability to create an inspiring office environment that encourages and supports staff and realizes sound financial management and effective operations
Candidates need to:
- Demonstrate competence in these four areas and need to show a desire to want to make a significant contribution in Haida Gwaii
- Enjoy working closely with a non profit Board and with the Haida Nation
- Enjoy the opportunities of living in a beautiful rural BC coastal environment
It is required that Candidates have a University Degree in one of the key areas such as business, community economic development or related fields.
Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
