Coordinator for the RECODE project 'Social and collective entrepreneurship ambassadors'

RECODE offers the possibility for young people, be they students or not, to become agents of progress and change within universities and colleges through social and collective entrepreneurship.

"100 weeks, 1 000 projects and 10 000 people involved" aims to constitute, within the Montreal metropolitan region, a network of youth ambassadors and a resource center to promote social and collective entrepreneurship. This project is part of the RECODE programme (www.re-code.ca/) initiated by Concordia University (Karl Polanyi Institute and District 3), with the support of UQAM (Services aux collectivités), the Chantier de l’économie sociale, the Centre de recherche sur les innovations sociales (CRISES) and TIESS (Territoires innovantes en économie sociale et solidaire). It brings together institutions of higher learning (universities and CEGEPs) and organisations reinforcing social and collective entrepreuneurship and who together, constitute an ecosystem of support for the social economy. The goal is to stimulate the emergence and the development of social economy enterprises of all sizes through promotion and communication activities as well as through the diverse services, such as training and accompaniment, available in the metropolitan area.

The steering committee is recruiting a coordinator based on the following criteria:

Mandate

  1. Animate and develop the network of youth ambassadors who will be responsible for organising promotional activities and stimulating new projects in the field of social and collective entrepreneurship.
  2. Support and coordinate the work of the ambassadors to stimulate and promote new projects.
  3. Network the diverse resources in the metropolitan area in order to maximise the impact of their work in supporting and accompanying enterprises in the phases of start-up, consolidation and expansion.
  4. Coordinate a small team of part-time or contractual employees to be hired in the context of the project.

Under the supervision of the steering committee, the selected candidate will ensure that the network achieves the project’s goals to develop 1000 projects in 100 weeks reaching 10 000 people.

Responsibilities

Project management:

  • Recruit ambassadors through diverse actions (references, emailing, on site recruitment, etc.) in collaboration with partners, and particularly youth networks and institutions of higher learning;
  • Support the outreach and network development via the ambassadors; 
  • Define goals for the ambassadors and support their work to fulfill their commitments;
  • Stimulate the sharing of experiences and practices among those involved in the project on diverse related issues;
  • Organise and supervise operations (with partners, media, networks, …);
  • Coordinate with universities and CEGEPs the development of RECODE’s ambassador scholarship program;
  • Support the steering committee in its relations with universities, CEGEPs and support organisations in the field of social and collective entrepreneurship;
  • Coordinate  training for youth ambassadors in collaboration with  project leaders.

Communications:

  • Develop and implement the communication plan;
  • Develop and animate a web platform to present the available resources and support networks for social and collective entrepreneurship;
  • Implement web marketing strategies, animate and produce content for  social media;
  • Ensure external and internal communications (with various partners including universities and CEGEPs) and among ambassadors;
  • Ensure the visibility of events in various institutions of learning in collaboration with the ambassadors;
  • Prepare material and establish a media presence;
  • Develop communication tools.

Administration:

  • Ensure the respect of budgetary objectives and operational deadlines;
  • Produce monthly reports;
  • Plan and organise meetings of the steering committee;
  • Produce administrative documents according to the needs of the organisation.

Carry out other tasks related to the previously described mandates on request from the steering committee.

Desired profile

The desired candidate must have the capacity to mobilise various partners, particularly young people, and to recruit and animate the network of ambassadors. He or she must be able to identify active members of the community and encourage their contribution. As a mediator between community members and the various enterprises and institutions, the coordinator encourages contributions, critique, advice, ideas and suggestions from members and plays a role of moderator or intermediary. The chosen candidate will have shown, through his or her previous experience, a passion for social impact. His or her strong capacity to communicate and mobilise as well as to create links with young people will be a key advantage.

  • University diploma in a relevant field
  • Understanding and knowledge of the social economy and the social entrepreneurship environment;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of social media and web marketing;
  • Autonomy and capacity to work with strict deadlines;
  • Creative and innovative approach;
  • Excellent organising skills;
  • Good writing skills and capacity to synthesize;
  • Bilingualism (English-French) both written and oral is essential.

Working conditions:

  • Competitive salary and fringe benefits;
  • One year contract, renewable for 2 other years (3 months trial period);
  • Work place: Montréal, offices of District 3;
  • Contract begins in February 2015.
