Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking to fill the full-time position of Community Connector. The Spence Neighbourhood Community Connector works with the residents of the Spence Neighbourhood to address their concerns around the areas of safety, security, and the community. The Community Connector works with residents to connect neighbours, provide resources, hold safety audits, and plan community events. The Community Connector works from the front desk of the 615 Ellice office and in addition to supporting community safety efforts a important part of this job is engaging residents in the community with SNA programs and developing community engagement activities.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Organizing community safety audits
  • Organizing community events (like the annual March For Peace, block parties... etc)
  • Organizing, planning and running the Spence Neighbourhood safety committee
  • Participating in the West End Safety committee
  • Working with residents to address community concerns
  • Support in organizing the Good Food Box program
  • Manage the front desk at the 615 Ellice office
  • Support and promote residents engaging with SNA programs and activities
  • Support and promote residents engaging in the Spence neighbourhood.

  • Ability to advocate where needed
  • Ability to help individuals and groups identify and achieve their goals
  • Ability to organize learning for community members and/or refer them to learning opportunities
  • Self starter with an eagerness to see progress while not taking over the responsibilities of others.
  • Passionate self starter with an eagerness to see progress.
  • The ability to do data entry, use email (Outlook), Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Current First Aid/CPR training
  • Creativity and ambition
  • Experience working in the inner city community
  • Experience working with organizations

Hours and remuneration:

The Employee agrees to fulfill a 35 hour work week. SNA agrees to pay $14-$16 per hour for a 35 hour work week on a bi-weekly schedule, with hours paid as worked. Required CPP, EI, and tax deductions will be made and employer contributions will be paid. Responsibilities may require flexible hours to be worked (i.e., evenings and weekends). However, regular hours will be between 9 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday.
