The Cultural Engagement Project (ENGAGE) aims to increase participation of ethnocultural residents / groups within neighbourhoods. Various strategies may be used, including: relationship building, cultural community asset mapping, developing and implementing a community action plan, and collaborating with other partners in the neighbourhood.
Tasks
- Working both independently and i teams to connect with isolated ethno-cultural residents in the community and provide them with opportunities to access community resources & get involved in community events/ affairs
- Actively participate in the C.O. training program in order to learn about community asset mapping, action planning and other community engagement strategies
- Engage ethno-cultural residents in developing a map of ethno-cultural community assets and needs.
- Involve ethno-cultural residents in creating a plan for taking action on identified needs, as well as providing leadership in carrying out the plans
- Serve as a connection between newly engaged ethno-cultural residents and established community organizations.
Qualifications
- A current resident of Penbrooke Meadows or Dover community in Southeast Calgary
- Being an active member/leader within your ethno-cultural community is an asset;
- Good oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
- Ability to work within a team of individuals from diverse ethnic, language, religious and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to make a 6-month commitment, maximum of 10 hours per week. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge or experience in community development at the neighbourhood level an asset.
Time Commitment
This is a part-time position requiring 10 hours/week for 4.5 months starting on February 15, 2015 and ending on June 30, 2015. Salary rate is $15/ hour. Training will be provided.
