Dates: May 4-Aug 29, 2015
Hours of Work: Mon-Fri 8:30-4:30 with some possibility of evenings or weekends
Rate of Pay: $14/hr
The FortWhyte Farms Crew Leader is a seasonal position working directly with youth involved in the FortWhyte Farms program. Crew Leaders assist with spring programming and farm operations tasks in May and June and mentor a crew of youth interns in July and August.
Principal Tasks:
Farm Program and Operation Support (95%)
May and June
- Work directly with spring program participants in kitchen and farm operations related activities
- Assist with farm operations including greenhouse, garden, livestock and orchard
- Participate in training and preparation for summer program
- Assist with summer intern training
July and August
- Lead a crew of 4 to 5 youth in our summer intern program which includes farm work , cooking, leadership development programming, field trips and community service work
- Provide guidance and timely feedback to crew members
- Train, motivate and hold crew members accountable in daily tasks
- Facilitate group discussions and goal setting
- Model teamwork, commitment, and open communication
Other duties as assigned (5%)
Basic Hiring Criteria:
- Experience working with children and youth, Aboriginal youth in particular (Child abuse registry check and criminal records check are required before position begins.)
- Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent work experience
- Initiative and proven problem solving and communication skills
- Physically fit and capable of manual labour
- Valid Driver’s License (Class 4 preferred)
- Landscaping or agricultural experience an asset
- Certification in First Aid and CPR an asset
- Knowledge of FWA site an asset
