The Youth Mental Health Promotion Worker (YMHPW) is responsible for CMHA Winnipeg’s overall youth mental health promotion initiative, which includes the research, design, and delivery of workshops and programming. The position will involve both school based and post-secondary mental health promotion programming, collaboration work with other agencies, and the maintenance and coordination of a youth speaker’s bureau. Communications activities will include engagement with both traditional media and social media platforms. This position will provide support to other CMHA branches throughout the province to support evidence based mental health promotion strategies and support capacity building throughout the CMHA organization.
A. Primary Accountabilities
1. Develop, maintain, and deliver mental health promotion, illness prevention and stigma reduction activities for youth.
- Assesses education and training needs for pre-determined target groups
- Researches, investigates and evaluates evidence-based and/or evidence-informed interventions and curricula being used elsewhere for suitability
- Develops workshops curricula when content not available to achieve specific learning objectives of groups
- Organizes workshop content
- Promotes mental health promotion and illness prevention opportunities
- Makes logistical arrangements
- Monitors and evaluates program activities
2. Develop and coordinate youth focused mental health promotion events and campaigns.
- Researches current evidence-based and/or evidence-informed mental health promotion activities targeted to youth including social marketing strategies.
- Works collaboratively with project partners such as school division, colleges and universities and youth service agencies.
- Organizes event/campaign content

3. Maintain and manage a speaker’s bureau for youth stigma reduction and mental health promotion activities

B. Other Accountabilities
- Participates in agency events such as the annual meeting, planning sessions, and regular staff meetings
- Provides statistical data and prepares reports related to youth mental health promotion programs and activities
- Supports both internal and external program evaluation processes
- Represents the service area in the community and develops important alliances and partnerships including school divisions and post-secondary institutions.
- Operates general youth outreach strategies including agency social media
- Demonstrates competence in understanding cultural diversity and works effectively with individuals with various cultural backgrounds

Education/Experience
This position requires a post-secondary degree or program in a human service related discipline such as social work, psychology, health promotion, sociology, nursing or education and over two years of experience in the following:
- Developing and implementing mental health promotion programming, especially targeted to youth
- Delivering workshops, especially targeted to youth
- Developing a range of printed materials in both English and French
- Delivering presentations in small and large groups settings
- Coordination of large events
- Working with diverse audiences and community partners
- Developing and implementing research and evaluation activities

Salary range: $42,580.99 - $51,798.51 (after April 1, 2015: $43,006.80 - $52,316.50)
