The General Manager is directly responsible to the Board of Directors and is required to provide overall management and control as stipulated by the Board of Directors and as required by the applicable acts, regulations and policies.
The duties of this rewarding position are as follows:
- To fully support and facilitate the vision and mission of the corporation.
- To act as the public representative of the corporation, and to conduct him/herself with the greatest of integrity in supporting the clients and communities it serves.
- Responsible for overall effective delivery of all programs and operations under the guidelines of all relevant contractual and funding agreements and all applicable policies as set by the Board of Directors.
- To prepare appropriate plans, policies, criteria, guidelines, budgets and procedures for consideration and approval of the Board of Directors.
- Responsible for preparation of appropriate monthly, quarterly and annual reports for Board approval and submission to required bodies.
- In co-operation with the Board, to maintain good public relations with appropriate municipal councils, community economic development organizations and other stakeholder groups.
- In co-operation with the Board of Directors, to maintain a good working relationship with all outside funding agencies.
- Responsible for staffing of the corporation in line with all applicable program budgets and Board policies. Responsible for developing job descriptions for employees and rating their performance on a regular basis as per policies and operational requirements.
- Responsible for the overall supervision and financial control of the corporation.
- To ensure that an adequate communication system is maintained, with appropriate bodies.
- Responsible for the acceptance, review, and evaluation of all loan and contribution applications prior to submission to the appropriate body.
- To ensure prompt processing of loans and grant documentation including letters of commitment, security documents and all other required documentation, legal and otherwise.
- To manage the loan portfolio in an effective manner to ensure maintenance of the Corporation’s credibility and to maximize the expected return on investment. This function is to include collection action, foreclosure, seizure and any other such actions as may be necessary and to advise the Board of such actions.
- To consult with designated business people, to identify goals, evaluate skills and resources and to serve as a knowledgeable source of information in the development of successful local businesses.
- Continually seek, develop, coordinate and direct resources where available to on-going advisory and education functions in all aspects of small business development including but not limited to operations, human resources, financial management, and marketing.
- Responsible for taking the necessary actions to limit and advise the Board of the liability of the Corporation
- The General Manager will act as a local and regional liaison, and will develop, participate and facilitate community economic development projects taking place within the catchment area, and those that contribute to the economic vitality of the region.
Minimum Qualifications include:
- Minimum of 5 years in a senior management role (both operational & financial management experience are required)
- Significant commercial lending experience
- Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business Administration Degree (Graduate degree preferred)
- Experience working with small businesses/entrepreneurs in a supportive role
- Superior computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Simply Accounting
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to compile, review, and analyze Business Plans and financial statements
- Exceptional public speaking ability and a proven track record of successful public relations
- Significant community development experience and a history of community volunteerism
- Proven fund development and acquisition experience is requiredKnowledge of, and the ability to travel throughout Middlesex County and Southwestern Ontario
