The Canadian Community Economic Development (CED) Network is a practitioner-based, membership-driven organization. Its mission is to help CED organizations across Canada strengthen their communities and find solutions to local problems. The Network is recruiting two dynamic, outgoing professionals to support social enterprise research and development based at our regional office in Toronto, Ontario.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Supported by Canadian CED Network staff in Ontario, the Social Enterprise Researchers will be responsible for conducting the Ontario-wide social enterprise survey and co-writing the resulting report. Specifically:
- Email the survey to social enterprise managers encouraging online completion
- Conduct phone interviews with social enterprise managers across Ontario
- Track all responses and the percentage of respondents in each sector
- Interpret output data and draft analysis for the report
- Specifically focus on outreach to francophone social enterprises in Ontario
ELIGIBILITY
This is a Young Canada Works (YCW) internship. All candidates must meet the following YCW eligibility requirements:
- Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- Must be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
- Do not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;
- Have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job;
- Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job;
- Do not receive employment insurance benefits (E.I.) while employed with YCW;
- Did not previously participate or receive a salary in the framework of this internship program or another Career Focus program funded under the Government of Canada's youth employment strategy.
Accommodation Allowance Students who must travel 125 km or more from their residence to the place of work may be eligible for a $1.35/ hour wage increase as an accommodation allowance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in a related field of study
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and French
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel
- Experience working in non-profits or community-based organisations
- Experience working in an office environment
- Knowledge of community economic development theory and practice
- Adaptable to a new fast-paced work environment
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- Positive attitude
- Ability to work in a team and independently
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
WORKING CONDITIONS
- 16 week contract from May 4 to August 28, 2015
- $18.00/ hr plus statutory benefits, vacation and additional leave according to CCEDNet's personnel policy.
- Position based in Toronto
- Requires extensive computer use
- 35 hours per week - involves overtime at peak periods
