The Communications & Logistics Coordinator for Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition (MEJC) is a 12 week term position, where the successful applicant will work approximately 15 hours per week to provide behind-the-scenes communications and logistics support for the No Energy East Campaign. The successful applicant will bill MEJC $17/hr and will be responsible for claiming self-employed income earned from this role. Hours and/or the length of the term will vary and may be extended if funds allow.
Under the direction of MEJC's Steering Committee, tasks will include:
- Draft letters, media releases, and briefing notes on the proposed Energy East pipeline for a broad range of audiences including politicians, the civil service, and both mainstream and alternative media;
- Maintain social media presence for MEJC's NoEnergyEast campaign;
- Draft bi-weekly information updates and calls to action for a growing list of followers;
- Monitor email account and, with the assistance of MEJC campaigners, respond to messages as needed;
- Maintain MEJC website;
- Provide logistics support for special events and actions, especially those related to the We > Tar Sands days of action July 3-5th, including arranging for the printing of materials, booking spaces, arranging food, and other related logistical issues;
- Other relevant duties as required.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of climate justice and energy systems in Canada, including tar sands, pipelines, and related social movements
- Excellent written communication skills
- Expertise with Wordpress
- Expertise with various social media platforms
- Excellent organizational abilities
- Experience organizing rallies and marches
Desired Skills
- Graphic design abilities an asset
- Digital Fundraising Skills an asset
- Proposal writing experience is an asset
- Experience organizing a conference or event which required billeting is an asset
