BC Healthy Communities Society (BCHC) is a dynamic not-for-profit society that provides Healthy Communities services, tools, resources and supports to community organizations, local governments and health authorities across BC to build healthier, resilient and sustainable communities.
In this new position with the organization, we are seeking someone who brings strong capacity building expertise, is a systems thinker, and can embrace complexity and experimentation. The focus of this role will be two-fold: being the point person that supports communities in utilizing our capacity building grant programs as well as being the team lead for translating our evaluative data into valuable and engaging learning and outreach information.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Community Liaison works closely with the BCHC team as part of a highly collaborative learning organization. In this role you will act as the key liaison for communities to support the development and implementation of a range of capacity building grants including: PlanH, Healthy Aging and Municipal Alcohol Policy. This includes acting as primary contact for communities, responding to inquiries and working more deeply to support communities to access and maximize our capacity building opportunities (which includes several grant programs). In addition, you will be the team lead responsible for holding our program and organizational evaluation data and ‘making sense’ of it: identifying patterns and themes, harvesting learning opportunities, and translating qualitative and quantitative data into vivid stories and other learning tools.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Capacity Building Support
- Be the first point of contact for communities, introducing and explaining the range of BC Healthy Communities’ capacity building supports (e.g. grants, workshops, webinars, etc.) to inquiring communities and local governments.
- Build strong community partnerships and help to connect community needs with opportunities
- Outreach to, and liaise with, potential and current grantees, providing support or ‘coaching’ to communities so they are well placed to apply for, utilize and achieve the intended outcomes from our capacity building grants.
- Administer the grant programs, including tracking reports, deliverables, timelines and payment schedules.
Evaluation
- Oversee and manage data collection for all BC Healthy Community grant programs, including creating a data management system to track grant outcomes.
- Review mid-term and final grantee reports, identifying and harvesting patterns and emerging themes.
- Provide overarching ‘sense-making’ and pattern finding expertise to BCHC’s evaluative data
- Compile data, statistics and other information from a variety of sources (event evaluations, mid-term and final reports, surveys, etc) that support programs and initiatives.
- Develop evaluative reports and updates (including qualitative and quantitative information) and present evaluation outcomes at meetings.
Communications
- Providing key information from evaluation data to be shared as stories, quotes, statistics that are helpful for our communications (ie quotes for social media and our website, interesting statistics around patterns identified, etc).
- Work closely with our Communications Specialist to translate data into engaging stories, infographics, reports and other communications tools.
Other
- Provides overall supports for BCHC program and project activities and initiatives as needed, works closely with the BCHC team to support strategic planning, and overall organizational learning and development.

DESIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience with non-profit/community development/health promotion.
- Relevant post secondary education.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience.
- Strong computer skills -proficient using a Mac with experience using Excel and a knack for learning new programs.
- Good at trouble shooting/ (web) technically handy.

Compensation range is competitive and based on experience. Part-time home office may be required.
