The Life and Employability Enhancement Program (L.E.E.P.) is a pre-employment training program for newcomer youth from war affected countries (ages 18-30) that face multiple barriers to employment.

Responsibilities

The position requires a self-motivated person with the passion for and experience in empowering people with barriers to employment. The Resource Specialist is responsible for placing program participants in work experience placements and conducting follow up in order for participants to transition into employment.

General responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with a variety of business and industry representatives to promote and ensure successful participant job placement
  • Make cold calls to potential employers
  • Resume development with participants
  • Work with participants on an individual basis regarding their job search progress and activities
  • Remain current on Winnipeg labour market trends and the most effective job search strategies, techniques and monitoring of marketplace trends
  • Conduct necessary monitoring of participants during job placement to help with transition to employment
  • Plan and coordinate guest speakers

Qualifications

  • Completed post- secondary education or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum one year prior related work experience.
  • Experience connecting with Manitoba businesses and organizations and knowledge of labour
  • market demands.
  • Experienced in job placement.
  • Experienced in resume development.
  • Knowledge of immigrant and refugee youth employment needs and issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written public relations/ communication skills.
  • Must be client centered with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Cross cultural experience and additional language an asset.

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will hold/have:

  • Current Certification in First aid /CPR
  • Valid Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Criminal Police Investigation check
  • Child abuse registry check

Wage:      $17-19.00/hour depending on experience
Term:       as soon as possible - March 31,2016
Hours:     37.5 Hours per week
