Within the vision and mission statement of Vancity Community Foundation, reporting directly to the executive director, you will be responsible for fund development.
The Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society (SHHS) Fund Development Specialist is an integral member of a small team tasked with supporting the work of the Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society. Reporting directly to the Manager Community Projects, the Fund Development Specialist supports the planning and execution of all aspects of the Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society fundraising activities including the Capital Campaign, Annual Campaign and annual fundraising and community events. The Fund Development Specialist also oversees the Communications initiatives including the annual report, website, and social media.
You will have strong ability to fundraise, network with different associations and groups to combat against homelessness in Surrey. You will have experience in marketing and promotion and ability to build strong relationships.
The Fund Development Specialist (SHHS) reports directly into the Manager Community Projects.
Mandate Statement:
The capacity of the Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society (SHHS) team will be optimized enabling achievement of established business goals.
Key areas of accountability for this role are:
- Coordinate and/or execute the Fund Development program and activities enabling the achievement of program objectives.
- Coordinate the development of internal and external communication plans as they relate to the Surrey Homelessness Society Fund Development program enabling an increased awareness of campaigns.
- Provide fundraising expertise to update the annual Fund Development plan as required.
- Identify and track benchmarks to measure Fund Development program progress and success.
- Maintain stakeholder relationships as they relate to the Surrey Homelessness Society Fund Development program enabling the achievement of program objectives.
- Supports the ED with Fund Development Strategic Planning, including
- providing fundraising expertise to update the annual fund development plan
- identifying and tracking benchmarks to measure progress and success
- Supports the ED to develop and deliver the Surrey Homelessness Society Fund Development program, including;
- providing administrative support for the Fund Development committee, the Capital Campaign Cabinet, and ad-hoc project specific Capital Campaign Cabinets
- preparation of committee materials,
- Supporting the ED in stewardship activities,
- maintaining calendar, reminders, and communications with donors
- follow-up and results reporting
- Supports the ED in developing strategic partnerships to further the Fund’s goals, including:
- identifying and developing strategic relationships
- developing a governmental relations strategy
- Supports internal and external communications related to the SHHS Fund Development goals and objectives, including:
- organizing events
- maintaining websites and social media
- working with external contractors to develop collateral materials, cases for support and other materials
- Supports the SHHS Coordinator as required.
- Supports activities and events that are related to the fund development aims of the Society, including:
- Planning, management and execution of annual fundraising events including development and solicitation of corporate sponsorship, coordination of logistics, management of volunteer committees
- Developing and managing efforts to identify, solicit, communicate and renew annual donors
- other annual events as delegated by the ED
- Provides overall administration services, including:
- management of the ED Calendar as required
- Integrated management and overall responsibility for Raiser’s Edge
- managing the SHHS annual fund development budget
- managing external contracts related to fund development
- Performs other related duties in keeping with the purpose and accountabilities of the role.

Qualifications
Competencies:
- Basic business acumen in the context of the financial industry.
- Solid planning and coordination skills to assist in the program/project planning activities, coordinate schedules and timelines, and coordinate events.
- Basic communication and interpersonal skills to respond to queries, explain policies and procedures and exchange information to assist the designated functional unit or program/project.
- Basic knowledge of Vancity strategies, functions and programs.
- Solid knowledge of Vancity polices, procedures, systems and software.
- Basic knowledge of the concepts, practices and techniques of the related field.
Education:
The competencies for this position would typically be acquired through a post-secondary diploma in Social Sciences/Business or a general undergraduate degree.
Experience:
- 2 to 4 years experience performing related duties in a similar environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working a non profit environment.
- Work experience in Marketing, Sales, Communications and Fund Raising.
