Exciting opportunities await an experienced community-focused economic development professional to work in the Calgary region with communities large and small. Be part of an innovative, multi-disciplinary team within the Calgary Regional Partnership to implement region-wide sustainability strategies by integrating economic development practices, tools and initiatives at local and region-wide scales.
A variety of programs are underway, including business retention and expansion initiatives related to strengthening the Calgary Region Inland Port and Foreign Trade Zone, sustainable tourism and tourism investment, and piloting innovative local economic development planning approaches. A Strategic Plan 2015-2019 for the Partnership lays out a four year program for the economic prosperity stream.
Programs contribute on three levels to achieve regional outcomes: by supporting and building capacity among local economic development practitioners; by implementing region-wide economic development strategies and, on a broader scale, by connecting regional goals/strategies to Provincial and Federal plans, policies and investments.
The Partnership’s approach is one of voluntary collaboration; demonstrated experience in working successfully within collaborative processes is essential.
As a member of our team, you will support the Economic Prosperity Lead, providing exceptional creative and organizational skills in project development and program coordination.
Candidates will have 6–8 years of progressively responsible economic development experience demonstrating results, leadership and exceptional skills in all areas of collaboration and partnership-building. An undergraduate degree in a field related to economic and/or community development is an asset; completion of a recognized Economic Development or Community Economic Development professional certification program is a requirement.
This is a one year term staff position with the potential to extend into a permanent position. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and appropriate to an intermediate-level economic development practitioner.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose
The role of the Program Coordinator is to assist the Program Lead in the Program areas related to Regional Economic Prosperity.
The Program Coordinator will provide program support with project administration, logistics, outreach communications and research that will assist the Program Lead with designing and delivering quality programs related to regional economic prosperity.
Accountability
The Program Coordinator will be under the supervision of the Executive Director or the designated supervisors appointed by the Executive Director.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
Administrative
- Offers administrative support to Program Leads providing and/or arranging clerical functions as required.
- Support the work of the Steering Committees and Program working groups with agenda preparation, logistics, location set-up, and preparation of educational and outreach items for the meeting, sign up lists and minute preparation.
- Assist Program Leads with annual budget and work plan development and creation of 4 year strategic plan.
- Assist Program Leads with grant writing and reporting requirements.
- Monitor website and develop updated information, as required
- Maintain filing system for each program area including a system for tracking steering committee agendas and minutes and program area correspondence and project files.
- Assist Program Lead with research and writing reports for Committees and Boards.
- Provide monthly updates to Executive Director and Program Leads and corporate communications.
- Manage and respond to project related email and other correspondence
Coordinate
- Work with the Administrative Assistant to ensure smooth and efficient coordination of logistics for various program workshops and steering committee meetings.
- Work with Administrative Assistant to ensure travel arrangements for Program Leads and Steering Committee Chair is administered efficiently and effectively.
- Monitor program and project budgets on behalf of the Program Lead
- Work with the Office Manager to ensure compliance with governance requirements related to Steering Committee membership and meetings.
Research and Assist
- Undertake and coordinate program related research
- Conduct literature reviews
- Collect and analyze data
- Summarize project results and prepare progress reports
- Prepare reports and presentations
- Make presentations and facilitate, as required
- Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
- Review and edit reports and documents for consistency with the Calgary Metropolitan Plan and other CRP plans
- Represent and/or assist Program Leads at various municipal, stakeholder and internal meetings, when required
Lead
- Lead in the development and implementation of projects when requested
Collaborate
- Develop strategic partnerships across the Region
- Ongoing communications and working relationships with Program area partners
- Ongoing liaison with municipal staff engaged in program area
- Ongoing collaboration with CRP staff
Workshops and Events
- Assist and/or lead, as required, with the planning and implementation of special events and workshops.
- Assist, as required, with the planning and implementation of special events general assemblies and meetings
General
- Other tasks required for the smooth and efficient running of the program area
- Carry out other specific projects as determined by the Executive Director or designate.
Knowledge
- Bachelors degree in a field related to Economic Development
- Certification in Economic Development ie. EDA or CED would be an asset, but not a requirement
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience in the field of municipal and/or community economic development
- Demonstrated experience in identifying opportunities, analyzing conditions and challenges, developing strategies, writing reports and managing initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with community and professional partners, including local politicians
Skills
- Proficient in the use of various Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Familiar and comfortable with use of general audio visual equipment
- Good understanding of municipal governance
- Proven analytical skills
