The Youth Agencies Alliance (YAA) is seeking an innovative and energetic Director.

The Director reports directly to the YAA Executive Committee and works hands-on to direct YAA staff, provides overall leadership and management of YAA programs, operations, and finances, and ensures desired outcomes are achieved with available resources within the context of YAA strategic plans. The Director leads YAA fundraising initiatives and represents the organization to the public, governments, media, partners, other organizations and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record in managing a community-based organization, relevant post-secondary education, demonstrated skills and experience in strategic and operational planning, financial management, fundraising, and program planning and delivery, and a flexible schedule (work on some evenings and weekends is required). The successful candidate will have an understanding of community engagement practices, a passion for helping youth and youth serving agencies succeed in our communities, and the vision to lead the YAA into its next phase of growth.

Duties include:

Leadership

  • Engage with YAA membership, including the Executive Committee, in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide YAA

Alliance Management

  • Develop strong relationships and maintain clear communication with YAA membership
  • Ensure member agencies understand and sign annual MOU agreements, and meet their commitments to YAA
  • Ensure member agencies are connected and informed of YAA activities and programs
  • Promote, encourage and share information from YAA member agencies

Operational and program planning and management

  • Develop operational plans according to YAA strategic direction
  • Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of YAA
  • Oversee and participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of YAA programs and services
  • Hire and manage YAA staff
  • Develop and coordinate YAA community partnerships, opportunities and projects
  • Manage program documentation and prepare and deliver reports to YAA funders
  • Engage and mentor community volunteers at YAA events and programs

Organizational management

  • Ensure a healthy, positive and safe work environment for all
  • Follow, maintain, and develop HR policy with YAA Executive Committee
  • Develop and maintain appropriate job descriptions for all YAA staff
  • Ensure YAA staff are appropriately compensated
  • Ensure that YAA staff and volunteers understand and follow YAA policy and guidelines
  • Seek the Executive Committee’s approval for any new human resource initiative
  • Provide a written Director’s update for each Executive Committee meeting, including any issues Executive Committee should be aware of and any additional information requested.
    This report will include:
    • Internal updates on staff changes, important programming changes, and internal projects (such as staff training, or HR policy development)
    • Fundraising and communications work with partners
    • Important events and issues
    • Upcoming work
    • Financial updates

Financial planning and management

  • Prepare budgets
  • Secure funding for the operation of YAA
  • Administer YAA funds according to the approved budget, monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization, and provide the YAA Executive with comprehensive, regular reports on revenues and expenditures

Community relations/advocacy

  • Promote YAA activities, programs, and initiatives to the larger community
  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, partners and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization
