Food Skills Programmer

NorWest Co-op Community Health is looking for a Food Skills Programmer for the NorWest Community Food Centre project. The NorWest Community Food Centre is a new initiative which offers a shared meal program, cooking, gardening and advocacy programs that improve access to healthy food in a way that maintains dignity and builds community. We ask that applicants share our commitment to community development, food security and social justice.

The Food Skills programmer will be responsible for facilitating and conducting outreach for three key weekly programs; a seniors food skills drop in, a children’s smoothie program, as well as a pop up good food market. They will possess strong leadership skills and an ability to create a supportive environment for a diverse team of volunteers and program participants. The candidate will work closely with and support vulnerable adults, seniors, those with chronic health conditions, children and at risk youth to participate at the Community Food Centre. Other tasks may include operating pizza-making sessions at an outdoor bake oven, organizing and participating in special community events, field trips and food related workshops.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field of study
  • 3 years of experience with program development, group facilitation, community outreach
  • Experience working in a leadership capacity with volunteers and community members
  • Demonstrated ability to move people from knowledge to action; ability to inspire, teach and empower community members to engage in positive change
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and show sensitivity to those who experience poverty/discrimination
  • Commitment to social justice and knowledge of food system issues
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities
  • Commercial food preparation experience and knowledge of nutritional issues an asset
  • Safe food handlers training required

Salary range $20.083-$23.282/hour and benefits as per CUPE
