The Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities (MLPD, The League) is a united voice of people with disabilities, and their supporters, which promotes equal rights, full participation in society, and facilitates positive change through advocacy and public education.

Job Summary
We are seeking a driven, energetic, well-rounded professional to join our small office and help take MLPD to the next level. The ideal candidate is inspired by our mission and philosophy, action-oriented, and has the ability to build on our solid foundation for the future.
Under the guidance of the Provincial Coordinator, the Development & Communications Officer is responsible for grant/proposal writing, fund research, and internal and external communications for The League.
Fund Development (approximately 50% of position)
- Support the Provincial Coordinator with managing the fund development of MLPD:
- Help plan, develop, and manage funder contacts and proposal creation for individuals, corporations, foundations and government programs
- Help plan and coordinate fundraising events
- Help secure in-kind donations
- Conduct research on prospective and current foundations and major gift donors and identify new opportunities to build and strengthen relationships
- Play a key role in grant and proposal research, planning, writing and reporting
- Manage donor relations and fundraising database
- Maintain fundraising database with up-to-date records of donor communications and solicitations
- Communications (approximately 30% of position)
- Help implement marketing plans for MLPD programs
- Help implement marketing plans to recruit volunteers
- Assist with all print materials: pamphlets/brochures, annual reports, newsletters, case for support, posters
- Assist with website materials and other web presence (social media, web-based marketing)
- Reception (approximately 20% of position)
- Help receptionist answer phones and welcome guests
- Provide holiday relief for receptionist
Required Skills, Knowledge and Traits
- Exceptional and demonstrable written and verbal communication skills
- Strong understanding of government systems, processes, and funding contracts
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Sales, marketing or public relations experience
- Passion for the work we do paired with an ability to energize others
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with disadvantaged groups/individuals
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn
Special Considerations
- Occasional evening and weekend work will be required as necessary to ensure the success of this portfolio
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset, but is not required
