The Community Investment (CI) Summer Student, as part of a team, will provide assistance to current and emerging engagement projects, programs, and other special projects. Directly reporting to the Director, Learning & Innovation, this position will involve work with and support staff of various United Way programs to provide general assistance including maintaining updated records
and working with colleagues to determine internal project needs and requirements including timelines, resources and supports. The CI Summer Student will focus support primarily to programs such as Youth United, Day of Caring, and Living On The Edge (LOTE) poverty simulation.
This position is a new opportunity with United Way and is 100% dependent on receiving the Canada Summer Jobs funding available through Service Canada. United Way has applied for this funding but will not be informed of the funding decision from Service Canada until May, 2016.
You possess energy, creativity, enthusiasm, and strong communication and writing skills. In addition to a commitment to strengthening our city, you will also possess the following qualifications as required by Service Canada:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
You will also have the following:
- Experience working with youth
- Experience supporting and/or coordinating programs and events
- Strong time management skills combined with excellent attention to detail and problem solving abilities
- Comfortable with technology; proficient in MS Word and Excel; experience working with data bases
- Dynamic and outgoing personality combined with the ability to collaborate closely with staff and volunteers
- Flexible schedule (available to work early mornings, later evening and occasional weekends)
- A criminal record check and a Provincial child abuse registry check conducted within the last year
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset
- Bilingualism in French and English is an asset
