The Counsellor is a member of the Counselling Team and provides direct services to the participants of the Counselling Program at the North End Women’s Centre.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or certificate in the social services field
  • 2 years experience providing long term, short term clinical and/or crisis counseling
  • Experience in clinical mental health and trauma counselling
  • Experience in the development, organization, and facilitation of groups
  • Experience working with women from diverse cultural, ethnic and spiritual backgrounds
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with indigenous people particularly in terms of the historical context, traditions, teachings as well as the unique barriers indigenous women face
  • Experience working in a community based setting in the North End of Winnipeg an asset
  • Knowledge of the resources available in the community to women experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, and/or addictions
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Non-judgemental and accepting attitude
  • Able to recognize own biases, assumptions and areas of reactivity
  • Basic computer and administrative skills
  • Ability to deal with crisis situations in an appropriate manner
  • Other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a safe vehicle and satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Register Check

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To provide individual counselling to women who have been impacted by domestic violence
  • To empower women to advocate for themselves and to advocate on their behalf
  • To provide over the phone or in person drop-in/crisis counselling to women
  • To provide information, referral, and support to women
  • To plan and facilitate open and closed counseling groups and workshops for women
  • Administrative and reporting duties

Job Status: Permanent, 35 hours a week (Monday to Friday 9am - 4:30pm)
Salary Range: $17 – $21 per hour (dependent on qualifications and experience)
