End Homelessness Winnipeg (EHW) is a collective impact organization in Winnipeg that is committed to ending homelessness within ten years.  A task force composed of leaders within our community worked for three years to develop a comprehensive ten-year plan that emphasizes Housing First principles and support within home settings.

Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Manager, Prevention is responsible for the development and implementation, and oversight of initiatives and projects that contribute to the reduction and prevention of homelessness in Winnipeg.  This role works as part of a team to address the individual conditions, social conditions, and systematic policies that have created or contributed to homelessness.  Specifically, this role will:

  • Develop and maintain partnerships for program and service delivery
  • Liaise between neighborhoods, sectors, and community services
  • Work with internal and community–based partners to achieve strategic and operational objectives
  • Manage functions to support these initiatives, including the development of implementation strategies, the collection and synthesis of background research and information, and the analysis of policy and legislative impacts
  • Lead the development of complex strategic planning and policy documents, and fund management and reporting

You are passionate about ending homelessness and have an in-depth understanding of homelessness and housing, as well as the needs of particular vulnerable and/or over-represented populations and issues affecting many homeless and low-income people.  You also possess the following qualifications or an equivalent combination of education and related experience:

  • University degree or diploma, preferably in the social sciences or human services, with an emphasis on meeting the needs of vulnerable populations
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in a program management or supervisory role
  • In-depth understanding of homelessness, housing, and prevention strategies, as well as the needs of particular vulnerable and/or over-represented populations, and issues affecting many homeless and low-income people
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the systems, supports, resources and linkages available for successful delivery of access to housing services and supports for persons challenged with homelessness
  • Prior work in non-profit sector, preferably with organizations working on homelessness or housing
  • Understanding of business processes associated with non-profits and government, as well as the oversight of funding agreements relative to outcomes achieved
  • Understanding of the core concepts and service orientation of the Housing First philosophy, and the application of Intensive case Management and/or Assertive Community Treatment in the delivery of Housing first.  Awareness of adult learning strategies
  • Thorough working knowledge of Evidence Based Practice techniques
