Food Matters Manitoba is seeking a Policy Coordinator. The successful applicant will have experience with policy development and processes and be able to engage diverse stakeholders towards developing food security policy solutions. This position would be based out of Winnipeg, at 32 hours per week and pays $18-20 per hour. The Policy Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and works closely with Food Matters Manitoba staff and other partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Coordinate public engagement and community consultations on food policy issues
- Conduct policy research and analysis into existing bylaws and regulations and policy options
- Liaise with government partners, including elected officials and the public service
- Develop a Food Matters Manitoba food policy strategy
- Contribute to the documentation of the food built environment (food mapping)
- Develop and initiate an implementation plan for the Food Matters Manitoba Community Food Assessment recommendations
- Develop partnerships and contribute to broader coalitions to support policy goals
- Identify funding opportunities
- Assisting with other tasks as required
ABOUT YOU:
- Working knowledge of Manitoba municipal and provincial governments and understanding of how to constructively engage with diverse partners to create public policy change
- Knowledge of and commitment to community food security
- Experience in community and public engagement including meeting and group facilitation and event planning
- Experience working with elected officials, public service, and partner agencies
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills that can be adapted to various audiences, formats, and styles including government briefs, news releases, presentations, and online communications
- Ability to work well within collaborative structures and coalitions
- Post-secondary college or university degree in a related field (planning, politics, public admin etc.)
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, independent, professional, and able to work in a flexible, open- office environment on an area with multiple priorities
- Proposal writing experience an asset
- Self-motivated and a strong team player
- Experience working in a non-profit environment an asset
- A valid driver’s license and occasional access to a vehicle is considered an asset
