The Canadian CED Network is inviting applications for an Event Coordinator in our Winnipeg office. The Event Coordinator will provide event planning and execution support for our largest annual event, The Gathering: Manitoba’s Community Development and Community Economic Development Conference taking place October 21st. They will also provide a small amount of early planning support for events taking place in 2017.
ABOUT THE CANADIAN CED NETWORK
The Canadian CED Network (CCEDNet) is a values-based, non-profit organization committed to strengthening the social, economic, and environmental conditions of Canadian communities. We have several hundred members throughout Canada working at the grassroots level in rural, urban, Aboriginal and northern settings. The Manitoba regional network is strong and active, with a staff team focusing on strengthening members’ skills and knowledge to build capacity, growing and using our collective voice to engage with the public and our governments, and connecting community economic developers to each other and needed resources. The Gathering is a collaboratively planned, annual event with 500-600 people, 30 workshops, and a number of other programming elements.
DUTIES
With support from the Manitoba Regional Director and Events and Engagement Coordinator:
- Support and take direction from the Gathering Planning Team made up of a diverse selection of CCEDNet members and partners from a variety of communities and organizations
- Execute all aspects of the conference program including the opening plenary, workshops, networking events, etc.
- Coordinate all Gathering communications and marketing including: Gathering web page, CCEDNet communication channels, media, social media, messages to presenters and participants, and development of the posters, programs, and other marketing materials
- Develop and coordinate both online and onsite registration systems
- Plan and manage related events
- Oversee volunteer recruitment, orientation, and tasks at the conference
- Manage on-site logistics including the arrangement of all food, breaks, and refreshments as well as agreements with selected venue
- Develop event evaluation and evaluation reports
- Complete required reports for local conference funders, Planning Team, etc.
- Provide early planning support for events in 2017, as directed by the Regional Director
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated experience in event planning, preferably within a community or non-profit setting and including logistical considerations like A/V, ASL interpretation, food service, etc.
- Strong communications skills with some knowledge of marketing, media relations, and social media
- Ability to work with and facilitate groups and volunteers
- Post-secondary college, university degree or equivalent experience in a related field
- Detail-oriented, independent, professional, and able to work in a flexible, open-office environment on a project with very firm deadlines
- Experience or expressed interest in community development or community economic development (CED) an asset
HOURS AND PAY
This is a contract position from mid-July to December. Hours will average 20 / week, but vary with more time required in the weeks around the conference, to a total of 460. Some evenings and weekend hours may be required, and the schedule is flexible. Wage is $19.95/hour.
