Riverdale Immigrant Women’s Centre (RIWC) is a charitable organization with a mandate to serve South Asian and Chinese speaking immigrant women and their families by providing culturally appropriate and linguistically specific settlement support and counselling services with the use of community determined strategies, developed and delivered by immigrant women.

RIWC is seeking a Social Enterprise Developer for a 8 week summer job position under the Canada Summer Job grant (for youth under 29 who will be returning to school) to assist in developing several social enterprises housed with the Riverdale Hub including the Social Gardener Café and catering service.

Reports to: Executive Director

Responsibilities:

  • Will work hands-on at our social enterprises, gaining diverse types of work experience:
    • Social Gardener Cafe: a Fair Trade vegetarian/vegan cafe
    • Catering and Community Kitchen
    • Event spaces: rentals and event coordination
  • Responsibilities may include:
    • Barista work: preparing drinks, sandwiches, and salads
    • Vegan/vegetarian cooking for cafe and catering
    • Event coordination, with a focus on performing arts

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program and completing a degree in business administration, marketing and/or social enterprise development. [do you still want this particular academic background?]
  • Experience working as a barista
  • Vegan/vegetarian cooking experience
  • Skilled and experienced events coordinator, particularly in performance arts
  • Arts background, with strong knowledge of--and connections in--east end arts communities
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of a South or East Asian language is an asset.
  • Under 29 and returning to school in the next schoolyear
