The Community Economic Development programs at SFU offer hands-on opportunities for people and communities to learn how to build connected, resilient, sustainable, and just local economies.

Our priorities for 2016-2017 are:

  • Together with our First Nations partners and stakeholders, incorporating reconciliation into economic development practices.
  • Growing the ecosystem, with our rural BC partners, for locally-owned triple-bottom line businesses through our entrepreneurship accelerator program.
  • Activating our alumni network. Leveraging and building the social capital that exists within the alumni network to raise the profile, influence and impact of community economic development leaders.
  • Supporting 25 leaders achieve excellence in building sustainable local living economies through our Certificate Program for Community Economic Development.

This full-time position offers fair compensation, exceptional learning and development opportunities and a chance to do something meaningful.
Other benefits include a flexible work environment and the possibility to earn the Simon Fraser University Certificate for Community Economic Development ($4,800 value).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. CED Certificate Program (20 - 25%): The coordinator will be responsible for organizing online guest lectures, study tours, case study examinations, peer awards program and assisting with our social innovation challenge.
  2. Local Entrepreneurship Accelerator Program (10 - 15%): The coordinator will be responsible for facilitating the development of the vision and next iteration for this program among our community partners; organizing peer learning between front-line practitioners and assisting with building new relationships that support the growth of this program.
  3. Community Economic Development Summit (40 – 50%) The coordinator will be responsible for coordinating a 2-day CED Summit in Spring 2017.
  4. Strategic thinking, evaluation, feedback loops and metrics (10 - 30%) The program coordinator will work closely with the Outreach & Communications Manager to improve feedback loops, evaluation systems and track & report outcomes using metrics & impact stories.

REQUIRED

  • Commitment to developing communities that nourish people and places.
  • Genuinely cares about delivering value to everyone involved in our network – those
 who pay for our programs and those who we pay to help deliver our programs. 

  • Reliable. Consistently delivers high quality work on schedule. 

  • Organized personality. Can pull together numerous logistical details simultaneously.
  • Mindful and emotionally mature. 

  • Has experience convening committees and facilitating bottom-up processes.
  • Has experience writing proposals and securing grant funding.
  • Has experience with impact reporting and evaluations.
  • 3 – 5 years experience in project or program management. 

  • At a point in career where you are thirsty to excel, push your own 
boundaries, do important work and create something valuable. 

  • 2 – 3 years experience working independently (from home or as a self-employed contractor) without daily support. 

  • Preference for the candidate to be located in Vancouver, other locations will definitely be considered for the right person.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have professional relationships that can help us fulfill our 2016-2017 priorities.
