The WestEnd Commons is a new and exciting development in West Central Winnipeg. There are 3 components to the WestEnd Commons; 26 family housing units, a Neighbourhood Resource Centre (NRC) and 6 worshiping congregations. The housing development on the upper 4 levels includes 20 subsidized and 6 median market rent family apartments. The Neighbourhood Resource Centre on the lower level is run as a social enterprise offering office and meeting rental space. The WestEnd Commons is a project of the St. Matthews Non Profit Housing, Inc.
The Community Connector Coordinator position is connected to the whole building. The overall goal for the position is to develop positive relationships and create a sense of community amongst the WestEnd Commons tenants (residential and NRC), build connections with the larger community and oversee the functioning of the NRC.
The Community Connector Coordinator is a significant position for the WestEnd Commons so we are seeking a person who has the following qualifications:
- Demonstrated community development and facilitating skills with proven ability to work collaboratively.
- An appreciation of cultural sensitivities and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to work from an empowerment and community capacity building model.
- Post secondary education in a social sciences related field, preferably with a community development emphasis; or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with families who face multiple barriers.
- Demonstrated ability to write well in order to successfully complete formal reports and funding proposals.
- The ability to have a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends.
- Working knowledge of the social supports and resources in Winnipeg and particularly in the West Central community.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
- Proven ability to work in an environment which requires flexibility, self initiative and vision with limited resources.
- Effective communication skills for working with diverse groups.
- Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills with a promotional aptitude.
- Demonstrated computer skills including MS Office and Outlook.
- Proven ability to work well with others and with limited direct supervision.
- Experience working with boards and committees would be an asset.
- Experience in working with tenants in a housing situation would be an asset.
Wage: $19 per hour
Contract: 32 hours a week position for one year with renewal dependent upon funding
Start date: End of September/beginning of October
