Position: Youth Employment Outreach Worker
Job Status: Term Full time position ending March 31, 2017 with possibility of renewal
Salary Range: $16 -$18 (Group Benefit)

As Part of our Elmwood Youth Employment Experience (EYEE), the Youth Employment Outreach Worker (YEOW) will provide psycho-social support to youth/individual to succeed at securing sustainable employment

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or certificate in the social services field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience providing short term, and/or crisis counseling to individual who are faced with employment barriers
  • Experience in the development, organization, and facilitation of life skills groups
  • Experience working in a community based setting in the Inner-city of Winnipeg
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to follow direction and make decisions within the parameters of the job
  • Ability to work flexibly in a high stress environment, adapting to the needs of the group/participant
  • Knowledge of the resources available in the community to Individual experiencing barriers to employment, homelessness, violence, and/or addictions.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Non-judgmental and accepting attitude
  • Basic computer and administrative skills
  • Other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • A valid driver’s licence and a vehicle is a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Interview participants obtain employment history, educational background, personal skill sets and goals; case history and background information;
  • Assist clients to set out SMART Goals and develop plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance;
  • Assist participants in accessing and connecting to community resources that will help meet their basic needs including ;
  • Prepare intake reports; Counsel clients participating in ECRC’s  program;
  • Meet with clients on a regular basis to assess their progress, give support and discuss any difficulties or problems;
  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of programs by tracking clients’ behavioral changes and responses to intervention;
  • Contact individuals, groups, businesses and agencies through phone calls, letters or in-person visits to recruit people and businesses interested in being involved in the program.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a recruitment plan for both participants and participating employers;
  • Prepare monthly reports and documentation to fulfill funding obligations;
  • Develop and distribute promotional materials, give presentations and orientations about the EYEE program;
  • Transportation support for clients requiring other resources to achieve success in the program;
  • Provide a positive role model for participants in the program;
  • Maintain and update employment database options for future placements
  • Perform work place drop-ins at the various businesses that participants will be completing their work experience with.    This occurs bi-week during the 8 week work experience placement.
  • Co-ordinate suitable off-site visits and guest speakers for  participants
  • Facilitate workshops and group on topic of interest as needed
  • Participate in staff meeting and team meetings
