Major job responsibilities:
- Conduct Health Education needs assessment and utilize an interdisciplinary team approach to determine the appropriate focus for health education services
- Provide one on one coaching to participants on health related issues
- Develop and present health education and promotion programs such as training workshops, teaching moments and presentations
- Prepare and distribute health education materials on public health issues
- Collaborate, develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff, agencies and organizations interested in public health care
- Research and collect relevant information to identify community needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programs designed to encourage health lifestyles
Major job accountabilities:
- Stay current on research and trends related to the health of children and families and to issues relevant to WFP participants
- Present workshops and materials that provide accurate, comprehensive and usable health information suited to participant's needs
- Maintain accurate records of participant interactions and submit quarterly and annual reports on a timely basis
Required education:
- University degree in social work an asset
- At minimum, certificate in counseling, health education etc required
Experience:
- Employment in a non-profit social service organization
- Experience delivering information related to health and healthy lifestyles required
- Experience as a support worker/advocate very beneficial
Skills/abilities:
- Strong knowledge of resources in the community and how to access them
- Able to develop and maintain collegial working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
- Able to assess needs of participants in a nonjudgmental, nonthreatening way
- Basic office skills including computer use, file management, telephone etiquette
