Conditions:


  • 12 month employment contract with possibility of extension
  • $20,000 annually (14 hours per week at $50,000 per annum pro-rated) 
  • Includes some evening and weekend work.

Overview of the Position:



This is a one year employment contract (with possibility of extension subject to funding) to advance the Building Greener Futures Together (BGFT) initiative of the Social Planning Council of Ottawa.  BGFT is an initiative to increase good job opportunities in the green residential renovation sector for people who face barriers in the labour market.  The Project Manager will play a leadership role in the following main activities:

  • facilitating work placements, skill development and training in the green residential renovation sector for people facing barriers in the labour market, especially youth
  • working with private sector renovators on a strategy to increase the market for green / sustainable residential renovations in Ottawa.

Duties:


  • Outreach and screening for program participants
  • Coordinate training workshops (occupational skills and employability) for program participants. Some training will be delivered by this Project Manager, some by a BGFT Trainer and some delivered by partners.
  • Find and negotiate work placements in green residential renovations for program participants
  • Monitor work placements to ensure success and resolve issues which may arise
  • Conduct an evaluation with work placement participants and employers
  • Increase involvement of renovators in BGFT
  • Work with residential renovators (especially "green" renovators) to expand the green residential renovation sector (including organizing professional development opportunities for existing renovators, collective marketing, etc.)
  • Solicit funding and donations to support the continuation of the program

Requirements:


  • Excellent experience in at least one of the following:
    • skills training relevant for residential renovations
    • employment placement / labour market development initiatives
    • community economic development or sector development
    • residential renovations
  • Some understanding of "green" renovations
  • Good spoken English
  • Ability to supervise multiple trainees
  • Well organized
  • Ability to work independently or in a group
  • Relevant education or equivalent personal experience
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Experience in project management to achieve expected results on time and budget

Assets:


  • Experience working with youth or groups facing barriers in the labour market
  • Experience working with small business owners
  • Experience with “green” / sustainable technologies and practices relevant for residential renovations
  • Knowledge of Ottawa’s residential renovation sector (trends, who’s who, etc.)
  • Bilingual (English / French)
  • Use of a car
  • Experience working effectively with volunteers, professionals and community members
  • Good experience with computers
