Northern Region Social Enterprise Collaborative

NORDIK Institute is leading a collaborative project in partnership with a number of organizations across Northern Ontario currently delivering entrepreneurship and enterprise development services. The Northern Region Social Enterprise Collaborative shall develop and integrate resources and services to support further development of social enterprises and social entrepreneurs across the region. The project is funded for a one-year period with potential for further funding up to 5 years.

The Project Coordinator will foster partner engagement in resource development and training, build capacity of the group to work towards project outcomes, project development and expanding relationships between social enterprises and social entrepreneurs, funders, angel investors and others. Long-term sustainability of the project will be a special focus for the Project Coordinator. Under the direction of the Director of NORDIK and in collaboration with the Steering Committee, the Project Coordinator will:

  • Participate in recruitment, hiring, training and oversight to project staff
  • Develop workplans in collaboration with project staff to ensure that all project outcomes are met
  • Build relationships with service providers across the region through dialogue and collaborative learning
  • Ensure all project deliverables are met in a timely fashion, including development and/or adaptation of educational materials and events
  • Recruit for strategic partnerships (sharing information, mentoring and projects) beyond the current partners, including communities and organizations
  • Liaising with funders of the project and meeting reporting requirements
  • Participate in NORDIK research team meetings.

Qualifications and Requirements:

The candidate shall demonstrate previous experience in collaborative project leadership within the Social Economy sector, including budget and staff management. A demonstrated knowledge of Community Economic Development, Social Entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship and social enterprise development in rural, Northern and First Nation communities is required.
The candidate shall possess the following skills:

  • Strong communication skills including excellent written and verbal skills and a high degree of comfort in a technology-mediated environment
  • Financial management and proposal writing
  • Experience working with diverse strata in society, including business and economic development as well as those engaged in the social economy
  • Staff management and supervision
  • Networking and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of First Nations and Indigenous communities
  • Post-secondary graduate, ideally in CESD or another Social Science
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong organizational time management skills
  • Experience in event planning and organizing preferred
  • Bilingualism is preferred

Position Status: 35 hours/week; externally-funded 1-year position (with possibility of extension of up to 5 years)
Location: Sault Ste. Marie preferred. Other sites in Northern Ontario considered.
