Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Operations is a senior management position at the North End Women’s Centre and works closely with members of the management team. This position takes responsibility for leading the coordination of NEWC’s operational functions, led by our mission and vision and coming from a community development perspective. Direct areas of responsibility include Human Resource Management, Facilities Maintenance and Management, Information Technology Systems Management, Centre Proposal/Grant Development and Reporting, Communications/Branding as well as operational and project management duties.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in Social Work or other relevant degree (other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered).
- Minimum 5 years of experience working within non-profit management.
- Experience in overall leadership and implementation of operational and program community projects.
- Experience and success coordinating agency level infrastructure such as Human Resources, Facilities Maintenance, IT, Communications and other related projects that support overall agency functions.
- Experience working in cross-functional team and implementation of new initiatives.
- Ability to write funding proposals/grants and reporting in accordance with funding requirements.
- Experience working in a community based setting in the North End of Winnipeg and knowledge of inner city challenges is an asset.
- Training and experience in project and change management is an asset.
- Strong leadership, coordination and management skills.
- Strong consultative and conflict management skills.
- Strong time management, organizational, decision making, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Demonstrated ability writing reports, recommendations and organizational communications, both internal and external.
- Highly motivated and self-directed with the ability to work on multiple projects, adjust quickly to shifting priorities, meet deadlines, exercise good judgment, and handle pressure situations.
- Ability to organize, direct, plan and coordinate operations within multiple competing priorities, with a keen eye for detail.

- Proven interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and collaborate successfully at all levels, internally as well as with government, donors and external agencies.

- Understanding of information technology, with demonstrated skills and experience in related software, including proficiency in Word, Excel and Access.
- Knowledge of, and experience working with Indigenous people particularly in terms of the historical context, traditions, teachings as well as the unique barriers Indigenous women face.
- Knowledge of the impacts of poverty, addictions, violence, and dependency on women.
- Understanding of and commitment to a strength based and solution oriented approach.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability to apply community development, trauma informed care, cultural proficiency, and harm reduction principles is an asset.

Duties & Responsibilities
Human Resource Management
- Responsible for developing and administering human resources in a culturally responsive manner, with attention on building a diverse work team.
- Working in concert with the leadership team, provides management support in delivery of HR functions, including recruitment, hiring, compensation, benefits/pension, performance appraisal, training and development, succession, workplace wellness and HR analysis and reporting.
- Responsible for organizing cross-agency staff training and team development.
- Collaborates with the Finance Team in ensuring effective administration of pay and benefits/pension processing.
- Overview of organizational health and wellness strategy, safety and fire procedures.
Agency Infrastructure Services
Manages and coordinates NEWC’s infrastructure services, including:
- Information Technology (IT) systems management
- Facilities Maintenance and Management
- Proposal/Grant Development and Reporting
- Monitors and maintains agency operational, building and administrative contracts in consultation with the Executive Director.
- Assumes lead and liaison role in coordination and implementation of IT and facilities maintenance across four locations.
- Responsible for Centre proposal/grant writing and development as well as required reporting.
- Oversees research and analysis, including responsibility for supporting program evaluation as it relates to associated reporting.
- Responsible for the development, implementation and review of agency policies and procedures in collaboration with the management team and board.
Communications/Branding Leadership
- Working with the Executive Director and leadership team, oversees the development and implementation of integrated internal and external communication strategies and branding.
- Collaborating with the CED Manager on Up Shoppe branding, marketing and alignment to NEWC messaging.
- Provides support to the Fund Development Committee of the board and the development of a joint Fund Dev/Communications Committee.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, assists in the development and implementation of integrated internal and external communication strategies and branding.
Agency Operations and Overall Leadership
- Leads or participates in cross-department initiatives, supporting the leadership team in implementing new organizational/program initiatives.
- Responsible for coordination of NEWC events and activities through committee (i.e. AGM)
- Responsible for the activities of a leader, including participating in strategic planning and leading special assignments, projects, and strategic initiatives, as required.
- Conducts research related to projects and various topics and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Responsible for completing reports and presentations for the Executive Director and the Board, as required.
- To attend community events and meetings and to sit on community committees and boards as determined in consultation with the Executive Director.
- To maintain professional conduct in the community and at the Centre at all times.
- To continuously respond to the needs and trends of the organization, community, and women’s movement.
- To advocate for women and North End Women’s Centre’s community.
- Other duties as assigned, consistent with this job description as determined by the Executive Director.
Job Status
Term position until March 31, 2018 (with possibility of extension), 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm) *Flexibility in work hours is necessary
Salary Range: Dependent on qualifications and experience
