SUMMER POSITION FOR YOUTH (Aged 15-29)

The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. . The Centre works from empowerment, inclusion and harm reduction philosophies to support women with concerns such as housing, income security and healing from domestic violence.

WCWRC is seeking a Community Garden Facilitator for a summer contract. Reporting to the Community Kitchen Manager, the Community Garden Facilitator will oversee our community garden and assist with our nutrition programs.

Contract Period: May- August 2017
Salary: $11.00
Time requirement: Up to 30 hours per week
Closing date: April 28, 2017

Responsibilities

  • Creating and facilitating a planting, maintenance and harvest plan for the 2017 garden season designed to maximize community participation
  • Planning and facilitating workshops for the community on gardening with a focus on engaging families
  • Supporting volunteers in the kitchen and in the community garden
  • Working with team members to create a positive environment

Qualifications

Essential

  • Knowledge of food security issues and gardening
  • Experience planting, harvesting and maintaining gardens
  • Strong planning and facilitation skills
  • Willingness to obtain criminal Reference Check and Child Abuse Checks
  • Experienced in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and religions
  • Must be comfortable working effectively cross-culturally and with participants with low English levels
  • Be between 15 and 29 years of age at the start of the employment;

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated understanding of marginalization, diversity and inclusion framework
  • Experience working within the non-profit sector
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision
