DMSMCA is a non-profit community renewal organization. We work with residents and stakeholders towards social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable renewal and revitalization of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods.
Job Objectives and Responsibilities:
- To develop and coordinate a weekly summer community market and develop and implement other food security programming in the Daniel McIntyre/St. Matthews Community. Tasks will include:
- Organising and coordinating an outdoor weekly summer market in the DMSM community which will include fresh produce vendors, food vendors, community organisations and local artists and entertainers;
- Researching, booking and liaising with vendors, community organisations and local entertainment;
- Liaising and Collaborating with other community markets as well as other community partners, such as Spence Neighbourhood Association, West Broadway Community, harmonising and supporting markets and food security work in each neighbourhood – sharing vendors, physical resources, etc.;
- Creating and organising a Market database and organising the registration of vendors;
- Preparing programs and promotional materials and publicizing the market throughout the community;
- Setting up and taking-down of the market space on market days;
- Developing and conducting a market evaluation and assisting in review of administrative procedures and program events for the market;
- Developing and implementing other food security programming, such as organising cooking and canning workshops, updating the DM/SM Food Map, etc. .
Qualification, Knowledge and Experience:
- Event planning and organizing;
- Background in community outreach, community based planning and community initiatives implementation;
- Strong collaboration and networking skills;
- Project Management;
- Good Research skills;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong organisational skills;
- Strong report writing skills;
- Good knowledge of desk top publishing /design etc. (posters, flyers, newsletter);
- Strong computer skills;
- Ability to work independently;
- Knowledge and experience in Community Development approaches and practices;
- Experience working with volunteers;
- Understanding and appreciation of inner city communities;
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
Assets:
- Knowledge of the Daniel McIntyre St. Matthews Community (preference given to DM/SM residents);
- Valid driver’s license and occasional access to a vehicle is an asset but not necessary; and
- Knowledge of CED principles.
Other Information:
- Must be between the ages 16-30. This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, Service Canada. The funding stipulates that the employee must be between 16 and 30 years of age at the time of hire; and have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.

Wage: $13.00 / hour
Hours of Work: Up to 30 hours/week; some evening and weekend hours required. This is a 12-week term position.
