COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
The City of Thompson seeks a full-time Community Economic Development Coordinator for the department of Planning and Community Development.
The Community Economic Development Coordinator will work closely with residents, business, and other major stakeholder groups by providing economic development and redevelopment recommendations, market research, and implementing project and programs that support commercial, residential, office, and industrial development; business attraction, business retention, development of public facilities and infrastructure; small business development initiatives; and other economic development; redevelopment or capital improvement programs or projects, working closely with the Thompson 2020 Project Manager.
The successful candidate will possess a post-secondary education in business administration, economics, planning or social sciences and have a minimum of 2 years’ related experience. The candidate will possess skills in facilitation, strategic planning, research and implementation, business networking, with extensive experience in economic and business development, business networking and building business cases. The candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate, exercise sound judgment and manage politically sensitive issues.
Knowledge: The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
- Community Economic Development theories and practices
- Local, regional and territorial economic development potential and opportunities
- Business planning and market analysis
- Financial management and analysis
- Generally accepted accounting principles
- Economic development and business promotion
- Preparation of financial and other reports
- Office administration
- An understanding of relevant municipal legislation, policies and procedures
- An understanding of the northern economic, cultural and political environment
Skills: The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:
