Community Social Planning Council is looking for a dynamic and creative individual to join our team as a Research & Development Officer!

Background: For 80 years the Community Social Planning Council of Greater Victoria has been active on social, economic, and environmental issues in BC’s Capital Region. Our work aims to increase the quality of life for all residents, particularly the most vulnerable. We use a combination of research and stakeholder engagement to support communities in developing the means of tackling pressing and pervasive problems. We’re a small, close-knit, and dedicated multi-disciplinary team who regularly work with some of the regions brightest on some of the toughest issues.

The Position: This position is responsible for the management, coordination, and high standards for all research. The position involves carrying out an existing portfolio of quantitative and qualitative research activities for partners and clients in the government, private, philanthropic, and non-profit sectors in the region. It also involves developing new research, knowledge mobilization, and community engagement activities requiring funding applications/contracts with a variety of sources.

You’ll work with other team members – staff, students, and volunteers – across project files and have ample opportunity to lead some vital work. Our priority areas of work include: housing affordability; poverty reduction and prevention; and community economic development.

Key Skills, Abilities, and Experience

The Research & Development Officer has demonstrated skills and knowledge of:

  • Critical analysis relating to social, economic, and environmental issues in BC and the Capital Region;
  • Grant writing, proposal development, and fundraising;
  • Research design and implementation, including qualitative and quantitative research methodologies;
  • Community-based and participatory action research on social issues;
  • Data management and analysis;
  • Inter-personal and public communications, both oral and written, including social media and report writing;
  • Ability to work  independently and part of a diverse and inclusive team;
  • Project and time management, including the ability to juggle multiple, simultaneous deadlines;
  • Social policy development and analysis;
  • Community and regional planning;
  • Public and stakeholder engagement processes;
  • Group facilitation, appreciative inquiry, and community development;
  • Knowledge mobilization, contributing to movement building and a learning community.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience;
  • Minimum three years of experience in a comparable role.

Compensation: This is a full time (35hrs/week) position with compensation ranging from $45,000 to $50,000 depending on experience.
