Reporting to the Director of Immigration Partnership Winnipeg, the Ethnocultural Communities Resource Coordinator will work to support Ethnocultural Communities supporting recently arrived refugees with resources to support these newcomers both formally and informally. The Ethnocultural Communities Resource Coordinator will facilitate engagement of diverse ethnocultural communities in building a welcoming community for immigrants and refugees in Winnipeg.

Background

Immigration Partnerships Winnipeg (IPW) is multi-sectoral collective that brings a new form of collaboration, at the community-level, to newcomer settlement and integration. IPW was designed to establish, facilitate and implement a community-wide strategy for improving the settlement and integration of immigrants.

The IPW is a collaboration of Manitoba Association of Newcomer Serving Organizations (MANSO) and the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg and is overseen by a 23 member council from various stakeholders including business, community organizations and the three levels of government.

Position Expectation

• The Ethnocultural Communities Resource Coordinator will support community organizations responding to the needs of recently arrived refugees and refugee claimants.
• In particular, the Resource Coordinator will connect communities supporting the recently arrived refugee claimants with a variety of supports including:
  • funding and in-kind resources;
  • Housing resources;
  • Understanding the refugee claims process and;
  • Navigating the systems to best respond to the needs of claimants.
  • Helping communities understand the claims process and provide appropriate supports to refugee claimants.
  • Connect communities supporting French-speaking refugee claimants to resources and supports in the francophone community.
• In addition, the Ethnocultural Communities Resource Coordinator will have the following additional responsibilities:
• Facilitate a meaningful role for ethnocultural communities in the settlement service provision continuum.
• Facilitate community forums to exchange and share information and highlight their significant support
• Support Yazidi communities in contributing to the resettlement of the Yazid refugees.
• Facilitate Yazidi community forums to bring the input of the community into the settlement services supports for these refugees.
• Coordinating the support for summer youth programming for ethno cultural communities including organizing communities, supporting with funding proposals and facilitating cultural competency training to better support newcomer youth.

Experience and Qualifications

• Advanced degree in community development or non‐profit management
• Excellent organizational and project management skills
• Strong experience of the workings and politics of ethnocultural community associations and their membership.
• Keen understanding of diversity issues and experience of working in multicultural settings
• Ability to work with volunteers and representatives of the public and private sectors
• Proven track record of working with multiple stakeholders to ensure collaboration
• Effective communication and public speaking skills
• Bilingual–English/French is an asset; knowledge of other languages is strongly preferred.

This is a full time ten-month contract position. The hours will take place primarily during regular business hours but there may be substantial evening and weekend work required.

The salary range for this position is $48,000 - $55,000. Selected candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Employment Equity is a factor in selection.
