The Spark Service of the Canadian CED Network is seeking a Recruitment Coordinator for our Winnipeg office. The Spark Recruitment Coordinator aims to build the capacity and impact of community development initiatives by recruiting a broad base of volunteers with specialized skills such as facilitators, business planners, consultants, lawyers, architects, and designers to volunteer with local community organizations on specific short-term projects. They will reach out and work closely with community organizations to assess capacity and determine needs in order to ensure appropriate and successful matches with volunteers. They will also support communications and promotion of the program. The position is 35 hours /week until March 31, 2018, with a possibility of extension and increase in hours dependent on future funding. The Spark Recruitment Coordinator works under the direction of the Spark Program Manager, and is under the general supervision of the Canadian CED Network.

Spark is the Canadian CED Network’s capacity building service for community organizations engaged in community renewal, poverty alleviation and social change in Winnipeg, using a community development or CED approach. Spark staff work with organizations to define their skill and capacity gaps, and then connect them to relevant resources. The centrepiece of the service is arranging matches between organizations and volunteers with specialized skills (from a wide variety of professions) to provide time-limited but crucial technical assistance. www.sparkwpg.ca
DUTIES
Duties and responsibilities may change depending on future project goals and direction.
- Outreach and presentations to potential community organizations and potential volunteers
- Assessment of community organizations’ capacity needs
- Assessment of volunteers’ skills and suitability
- Decision making about whether projects meet eligibility criteria and how to best meet organization’s needs
- Brokering of relationships & contracts between organizations and volunteers for pro-bono matches
- Referral of organizations to resources when appropriate
- Provision of direct technical assistance to organizations when appropriate
- Ongoing follow up during matches with both organizations and volunteers to ensure success
- Completing match evaluations with both organizations and volunteers, as well as outcome evaluations 6 months following matches
- Consistent updating of records and statistics regarding outreach, matches, referrals, and direct assistance
- Regular reporting to the Program Manager, and participation at weekly team meetings
- Coordination of Spark’s communications including regular social media posting and website updating
- Providing assistance to Canadian CED Network capacity building and member engagement events
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of and commitment to poverty reduction and community development
- Knowledge of organizational assessment, project planning, implementation and evaluation
- Experience working or volunteering with community businesses and community development organizations is desirable
- Strong network of relationships with the professional community
- Previous volunteer recruitment and management experience is an asset
- Experience working with a variety of organizations and with diverse groups
- Strong analytical and interpersonal abilities and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with MS Office, G-Suite (Google Apps), and databases
- Familiarity with and experience using web-based communication tools for organizational or business, including WordPress, Facebook, Linked in, and online e-newsletter services
Hours and Pay
This is a contract position from August 2017 to March 2018, with possibility of extension. It is a full-time position at 35 hours / week with some flexibility on schedules. Salary range is $19.67 – $21.40/hr, commensurate with experience.
