POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the After School Programs Manager or designate, the ASP Lead Support Staff is a competent individual committed to IRCOM’s vision and values. Under the supervision of the ASP Co-Managers, the Lead Program Support Worker will assist in oversight of the After School Programs. This position is integral to the success of the After School, HEY Program.
With guidance and support from the ASP Co- Manager, the Lead Program Support Worker will refine and further develop IRCOM’s After School Program, undertaking the following tasks:
Programming
- Assist the ASP Co-Managers or designate in planning, designing and implementing activities geared to engage children and youth in recreational, educational, and integration programs
- Support to staff team in designing, planning and implementing educational and recreational programs geared towards engaging parents and their children in the family program once a week
- Implement and enforce rules and behaviour expectations. Work through conflict situations calmly, with the goal of developing respect and mutual understanding
- Mediate between youth who are disagreeing and promote peaceful conflict resolution
- Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to teach respect and develop non-violent behaviour
- Supervise unstructured play time, as well as sports and recreation activities
- Support Program Co-Managers in monitoring/Supervision of program staff and activities
- Develop relationships with newcomer children and youth and their families and be a positive role model
- Tailor additional supports for children and youth, in collaboration with their families and the Program Co-Managers or designate, when needed
- Work in cooperation with other programs at IRCOM, including the Volunteer Program, Community Resource Program, Housing and the Newcomer Literacy Initiative.
- Interpretation and / or translation if applicable / as needed
- Lead and plan programs as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
Administration
- With help from the Programs Co-Managers or designate, acquaint yourself with the After School Program evaluation with a view to independently plan and implement evaluation activities and report to the funder
- Support Program Co-Managers in evaluation and reporting, including financial monitoring.
- Provide HR support to Co-Program Managers
- Assist in preparing a monthly calendar indicating the programming activities for the month
- Assist the Program Managers or designate in writing grant letters, fundraising, and reporting to funders
- Assist in applying for and renew gym permits and visit off-site facilities on a regular basis
- Assist with planning field trips and special events
- Keep accurate daily records of participants; assist in administrative tasks including data entry, as assigned
- Represent the Program Co-Managers or designate and IRCOM in coalition meetings and other partnership meetings/networks where necessary
- Work in collaboration with partner agencies through outreach activities and joint events
- Assist in overall strategic thinking and program development/planning of ASP.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as international development,conflict resolution, social work, sports and recreation programming plus a minimum 2 years direct children and youth programming experience equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Excellent, proven supervisory and program management skills
- Experience in program design, development and administration
- Written and oral English communication skills
- Demonstrated strong commitment to supporting and empowering the newcomer community through previous volunteering / community involvement
- Knowledge of additional languagesis an asset
- First Aid, CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset
- Must have class 4 Drivers License or willing to acquire one within 2 months of start date

Hours of work
Hours of work will be between Monday to Friday 1:00-9:00pm; however some weekends may be required as per the needs of IRCOM programs.
Other
The salary scale for this position begins at $34,300.
Selected candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
