The Labour Director at United Way Winnipeg champions and inspires union members and citizens broadly to work together to build a better Winnipeg for everyone who lives here.

Supporting all aspects of the relationship between United Way and organized labour, the Labour Director, with guidance from United Way Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Labour Council, will:

  • Foster strong partnerships between the Winnipeg Labour Council and Canadian Labour Congress-affiliated unions, and United Way Winnipeg
  • Engage with volunteers and workplaces to develop and support employee engagement and fundraising initiatives that contribute to positive workplace cultures and make a real difference in our community
  • Identify opportunities for United Way and Labour to collaborate on programs that benefit our community
  • Actively promote the work of United Way through participation in organized Labour conferences and events
  • Build strategic partnerships to ensure we make the biggest positive difference possible in our community
  • Develop and coordinate special educational programs designed to meet the needs of union members and citizens broadly

You are a self-driven, goal-oriented individual who is passionate about working collectively to make a difference in people’s lives. You will have a solid understanding and awareness of United Way, the Labour movement and community issues. A strongly collaborative team player, you are able to recognize strategic opportunities and can build and sustain strong relationships. You will also possess the following attributes:

  • A minimum of a Grade 12 or equivalent; additional relevant training and education will be considered assets
  • Three or more years involvement with a union as an active member and be a previous or current member in good standing with a union affiliated with the Canadian Labour Congress
  • Demonstrated commitment to a better community through volunteering or other activities
  • Demonstrated project/program management skills, with excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to lead meetings and make presentations
  • Experience in developing, organizing, and facilitating courses and workshops would be an asset
  • Driven and accountable to achieve results, able to multi task, and adaptable to changing environments
  • Experience with business application software and intermediate Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills
