Program Mentor – Oshkabaywis “My Helper”
(Mentor for Women)
Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. Is a nonprofit, community based; Indigenous lead human services organization that provides a range of Indigenous identified programs and services that focus on the wholeness, wellness and that builds on the strengths and resilience of Indigenous People.
Ka Ni Kanichihk is seeking a Program Mentor who is a passionate creative supporter, who will be responsible for mentoring and supporting Indigenous female youth ages 12-20 who are involved in or associated with youth street gangs and who are involved in the criminal justice system in Winnipeg.
You will bring working knowledge and experience in the Wraparound service delivery approach including experience working with gang involved/affiliated Indigenous female youth. You have excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills with the ability to maintain program administration including case notes, referrals, meeting with collaterals, writing reports, as well as the ability to plan and organize weekly engagement in positive recreational/social activities, provide daily social supports.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Community or Health Sciences, or relevant post-secondary education.
- Commitment to the strengths and values of Indigenous knowledge, cultural reclamation and traditional healing practices
- Three (3) years’ experience working with Indigenous youth
- Experience in Crisis Counselling and Outreach, and knowledge of traditional healing practices
- Knowledge in community development and advocacy
- Practice rooted in trauma informed care
- Experience working with high risk populations
- Knowledge of community resources
- Knowledge, identification and assessment of risk factors
- Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office, etc.
- Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff and participant privacy
- Must be prepared to work 40 hours a week with flexible hours including days, weekends, and evenings
- Must provide a clear criminal record with vulnerable sector search completed and child abuse registry check
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is mandatory.
