Job Title: Program and Volunteer Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director

*Permanent Position

PURPOSE: The Program and Volunteer Coordinator (P&VC) is responsible for developing and running programs for the clients of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Manitoba (EFSM). The P7VC will also be responsible for developing and managing the agency’s volunteer program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop programs that assist women in our Bail Program or exiting corrections.
  • Develop and manage the agency’s volunteer program
  • Ensure policies are developed for volunteers and consistently implemented.
  • To provide supervision and intensive support to women as needed
  • Operate the clothing room and other established programs of the agency.
  • Implement an Indigenous world view into all aspects of the agency’s programming
  • Identify and apply for sources of funding for existing and new programming
  • Skilled in reporting and evaluation of programming
  • Must be able to interact respectfully with a diverse population on a variety of sensitive topics.
  • Willing to work with clients who deal with a number of addictions, trauma, personal and emotional issues.
  • Able to maintain a professional working relationship with all clients, setting proper worker client boundaries.
  • Strictly maintain confidentiality of clients in both professional and personal settings.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to work flexible hours when necessary as determined by the Executive Director
  • Possess the mental competencies required in multi-tasking
  • Ability to demonstrate effective time management and be particularly successful in managing interruptions (which may require constantly refocusing attention to a variety of duties)
  • Ability to manage interruptions with respect to inquiries from clients as well as community drop-ins
  • Ability to comply with deadlines as directed by Management on a variety of assignments
  • Possess the necessary communication and networking skills;  to build professional relationships with institutional staff,  members of the community, clients, the Winnipeg Police Service, and relevant community agencies

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • University degree in a relevant field of study or a combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of colonialism on Indigenous women
  • Excellent analytical and/or problem solving skills
  • Excellent assessment and evaluation skills
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • Ability to coordinate cross-programming requirements with coworkers and external   community agencies
  • Sensitivity to and ability to work in a cross-cultural context with ethno-racial communities and groups including sensitivity to different cultural beliefs
  • Ability to function independently and within established parameters
  • Computer literacy including skills in word processing
  • Ability to work effectively and productively with limited supervision and under stress of deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality ability to work within the policies and procedures as outlined, while respecting the vision, mission and core values of the agency
  • Must possess a valid Manitoba driver’s license and have primary access to a vehicle
