Ka Ni Kanichihk is seeking an experienced, inclusive, and strategic Executive Director to lead our well-established organization.
About the Role
The Executive Director (ED) reports to the Ka Ni Kanichihk Council, and is responsible for implementing and achieving the policies and goals set out by Council. The ED oversees all aspects of day-to-day operations of the organization, including general management and administration, human resources, program planning, community engagement, and financial management.

As a leader, you learn and adapt quickly, can negotiate skillfully, and you embed sustainability into day-to day practices because you make sound decisions based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and good sense of timing.
What You Need
As the ideal candidate, you have five or more years of senior management experience, including previous experience working with a Board of Directors, and knowledge of governance practices and policies. You have completed a relevant Bachelor’s degree or higher (eg: Economic Dev, Community Dev, Social Work), or have equivalent combination of education and experience.
What You Bring
- You have effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring and motivating teams. You have sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
- You have excelled at building partnerships and have managed key constituent relationships, including participants, business partners/funders, and government agencies.
- You are able to identify key issues and can creatively and strategically overcome internal and external challenges or obstacles. You are goal-oriented, detailed-oriented, and tackle projects in a proactive manner.
- Experience creating and managing budgets for a large organization, and you have a sound understanding of risk management.
- You have a wealth of knowledge in human resources management, financial management, and project management best practices, including all federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations.
- You operate with a high level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability.
- You are committed to cultural reclamation practice and traditional healing practices.
- You have a clear and solid understanding of the issues faced by the organization, including, but not limited to, the significance of culturally-based and Indigenous-led services and leadership to social transformation both on an individual and collective basis, and you persistently set about tasks of bringing Ka Ni Kanichihk’s’ vision to action.
- You have a well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
